May I just say, forget team Edward Vs Team Jacob. I am soooo on team Eric

I really enjoyed this series, I tore through it in under a month. And I like Sookie SO MUCH BETTER than Bella as a main character.

Meh...
I'm not sure I love it as much.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it. It might have been written a little better, but I didn't like vampires as much in Southern Vampire Chronicles. They seemed too stiff and emotionless. And then I wasn't too crazy about all the blood transfusion going on, kwim?

i'm not even done with the first book, and i only read the first Twilight book, but i must agree that i like Sookie waaaay better than Bella as a main character. there is a bit too much descriptive sex for my taste, though. i don't really enjoy that too much, plus i've listening to it on audiobook so i can't listen to it in the car with the kids, and have to be careful when listening while washing dishes and such if the kids walk in the room...

There's a thread around here somewhere already about the series, just fyi.

I also LOVE Sookie, et al. They might not be the best books on the planet but they're pretty much a million, billion times than the Twilight series.

And Eric. Mmmmmm.... Eric.....

Oh I'm enjoying this series - fast read and much more adult without all the Mormon undertones of twilight.

I think Sookie is a fun character with actual personality who is fun to identify with. I am up through book 6 and waiting for the rest via Amazon.

just finished book 6 and am loving them

I like this series too.

Have any of you guys watched the True Blood series on HBO? We caught the last half of it and I enjoyed it a lot. I was really happy with who they cast as Eric. Oh and Pam too.

the HBO series actually got me to read the series...i had never heard of it before then.

I'm LDS and I didn't get "Mormon undertones" in Twilight. What I got was wishy washy girly melodrama. Blech.

Can't wait to read this series! I am hooked on the show.

I read Harris' first Aurora Teagarden and finished it quickly. It was odd because I put it down and thought "that was quick and so-so" but I found myself thinking about it a lot and wanting more of it. Guess it took a minute to sink in or something.

I agree - although I did see LDS undertones to the plot - the wishy washy girly stuff was WAY more prevalent.

Okay, this is off topic, sorry.

I was wondering what sort of LDS undertones? I'm just curious.

Oh, I'm not LDS and I really don't know much about this religion so there's no snark or anything intended I just found this fascinating.

I read the series and am also wondering..

I thought Edward was very "old fashioned" about sex, gentlemenly behavior, etc but I wouldn't direct that as being solely a "mormon undertone"...

Loooove these series. Just finished the last one "Dead to Worse" which was my least favorite and I'm so confused who I want to see Sookie end up with.
Of course - the chemistry between Eric and Sookie is unbelievable, but I can't imagine that CH will have her end up with the immortal vampire, on the other hand there is Quinn and Sam.
I think it will end up being Sam after all.

All I got was the abstinence but that's sot of 'the thing' right now with purity rings and balls and such.

Maybe it's the tru luv 4eva thing Meyer had going on with immortal vampires as Mormons believe marriage and family are eternal?

Of course one can argue gender roles but that's more Mormon myth/stereotyping. Besides men holding the Priesthood and women not there isn't much more to it. I have yet to meet such a passive girly-girl "catch me I am going to faint" as Bella in the church. I'm sure they're out there but they're not as prominent as a lot of people like to think. I think that whole part is less Mormonism shining through and more this new trend that seems to be emerging again with all the purity balls/rings and Jane Austen love, etc.

That's just my take, of course.

I really like Sam and the poor guy does always seem like he's getting the shaft but..... If it isn't Eric then I'll be mad. Eric is my fav. I could see her ending the series with Sookie single and happy too. I don't know?

Hmmm, yeah I guess I wouldn't automatically think of these things as being Mormon per se....

I guess I missed something along the way. I did sort of zip through these books since they are such a quick read. I was just wondering why specifically Mormon undertones were picked up instead of maybe general Christian ones??? I could see the whole abstinence until marriage thing as being construed as a Christian undertone. Honestly, I'm pretty ignorant when religion is concerned since I'm not religious. I just wondered what the Mormon connection was.

I think it will be Sam. For a lot of reasons, not the least of which being the fact that he's mortal.

You know how in a series, the author will re-introduce the characters again a little, in case you've forgotten since the last book? Well, when you read all the books in 10 days you notice how the author uses the same words each time.

Harris ALWAYS describes Sam as having a "halo" of hair around his head. I believe he is special and I believe that's who Sookie will end up with.

I love Eric too, but in the end she deserves a human.

for those of you that have read the Southern Vampires series can you tell which order they go in? My library doesn't always give me all the online info I need.

Is it..
Dead until Dark
Living Dead in Dallas
Club Dead
Definitely Dead
Dead to the World?

Also there was something labeled Spoken Word on Cd called Alltogether Dead.. is that audio of several of the titles or what?

I DON'T like reading a series out of order, and it is Spring Break. Thanks.

Was there a book about Hadley's death?

All the books sort of recap the previous ones and I went from Dead as a Doornail to Definitely Dead but, Definitely Dead seemed to make a big jump into the future. It was the book where Sookie has to go clean out Hadley's apartment but, the way the story read, it did a lot of recapping about hadley and the queen so I'm wondering if that was part of a previous book or if the author just stuck that story line in?

It irritates the heck out of me that these books aren't numbered or more clear in the order in which they should be read.
