Should my kombucha scoby have reproduced by now?

I am getting so anxious and I'd also like it to be sweeter. It's been five days, so I finally checked it out. Well, the scoby (which I um, find icky) appears to have this lovely slimey film half peeling off it, but I couldn't get it off. Does that mean it's not ready? It sure smells like kombucha. It looks ok otherwise, although there were a couple of floaty bits floating in it. Is that normal?
My first batch. Can you tell? Pls help!
Should I let it sit longer?
Can I just throw the scoby in another pot of the boiled, cooled tea if the baby doesn't grow or separate more?

I used water filtered from my fridge, so I don't know if that's good enough, and flavored green tea, and organic cane sugar from frontier. I know it's supposed to be white, but I didn't have any.

is there a size difference between the scoby you got and the diameter of the container you are brewing in? how much tea did you add for how big of a scoby? it could just be taking a while to grow out

sounds like the slimey peeling film might be your new scoby growing.

i use organic cane sugar and it's doing fine.

ok I tasted it anyway and it tastes like the kombucha I've had. It's just a tad bit acidic. It's a pretty big scoby and a gallon jar. I think I added 3 quarts.
Will it get fizzier as it gets more acidic?

Remind me not to google it anymore for instructions. Yeesh. You'd think people were dying left and right of kombucha complications, the way some agencies advice against it.

After 5 days, the baby scoby is going to be more of a thin film than anything else. It takes about 10 days for it to be generally recognizable as an official looking scoby.

If you want to stop the process now, just throw what you have (mother and baby-film scoby) in a new batch.

how long should you let it go the first time when making your own scoby? Its been... almost a week I think. Its got a pretty good film, and I'm thinking its time to transfer it to a new batch. How do you balence growing a good mushroom and making kombucha? I imagine that after a week, it will be way too vinegary.

also, do you have to do it in an airtight container for it to get fizzy?

if you want to drink your kombucha fizzy you will need to do a second fermentation in a container that can take a bit of pressure and that seals. you can add a bit of flavoring at this point too.
