Covers for fitteds?

A stupid question perhaps. But do you make them the same size as the fitted dipes themselves, or a bit bigger? Do you use the same pattern, or a different one? I used Shar's newborn pattern for some fitteds, and am expecting my PUL to arrive soon. Logic tells me that the covers should be at least a bit bigger?

Yes - I learned all this from scratch and discovered that I needed a separate pattern for my cover because it needs to be both wider and a bit taller in the rise. I made a wool one that I serged the edges and it's too thin through the buns, so it's hard to get it to cover my dipes. Ooops.

You can use the same pattern, just make it a little bigger...if you rubber band 2 pencils together and trace around the pattern it gives you about an extra 1/4" all the way around. If you are T&T your fitteds, then usins the same pattern for a cover with FOE will work also.

If you turned & topstitched your fitteds, you can make single-layer PUL covers with the same pattern if you bind them with FOE - the resulting cover will still have the seam allowance attached and will fit nicely over the fitteds.
