The "your un-vaxed kid poses a threat to my vaxed kid" argument... - Page 2

I heard: "herd immunity"

:

so bump.

Where does the "herd" go at the end of the day? Hmmmmm, maybe the term does fit.

Also, how come my vaxed child is often more ill than my non vaxed, has weird illnesses and some of those she was vaccinated for?!?!

Sure, herd immunity. I could go on and on-pointless, right now I thinks she may be getting over rubella-and she had all those evil MMR's-and this is not her first measles related illness...

But it is so much easier to justify not vaxing when most of the people arround you are vacinating their kids.
Gotta disagree here (what an ignorant generality, BTW). I wish my children would get measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox so that they will have natural immunity. I am, unfortunately, vaxxed for MMR and can provide no passive immunity to them.

You are assuming that most non-vaxxers have the same fear of normally benign childhood illnesses that most vaxxers do. This is generally not so. I don't fear the measles. I do, however, feel a very real fear for autism or any other autoimmune disease.

Would you like to give me another broad "anti-vax" statement that I can disagree with? I'm in that kind of mood today.

If they have a really young one - under a year, then I can see where they're coming from. They may have decided to vax, but their kid has not been "fully" vaccinated (whatever that means), so they still feel their child is quite vulnerable. Esp if their child is only a few months old. Being around an un-vax child, esp an older one, maybe a toddler, could expose their chld to a disease they dont' want their child to get.

Did that make sense?

Otherwise, if their kid is older, such as a toddler, and had most of their vaccinations, I really don't see the threat.
Again, if they were informed they would fear recently vaxxed children, especially those given live vaccines, more than unvaxxed children. Chances are my unvaxxed kids would actually *have* the illness and not simply be a carrier.

I would ask them:

First of all, how are your children at risk if they have been "immunized"? Using their theory, wont the un-immunized children just be getting each other sick?
and...
How about the risk you impose on my children by having them carry around a *live* disease immedietly after certain vaccinations?
How about the risk you impose on your own children by bringing them into a clinic that has been filled with 1000's of other sick people?
How about the risk you put on your own child in having a compromised immune system?
How about the extra $ it costs us all in heathcare to take care of your child each time he/she gets sick because her/his body is so full of toxins and so overloaded that they get every virus that comes around?
How about the risk that you impose upon the general population when you use such products as FluMist?

Just a few of many,many issues;
And then ask them who indeed is putting who at risk.

This usually stops the question in its track for me. I actually get asked this alot because we are the only ones not vaxing in our extended family on both sides. This includes approx. 30 children in total. Once I say something like the above quote they seem satisfied. I also offer my file of documented vax research for them to read and all of a sudden it seems like the topic is changed.
