Heating pad and early pregnancy

Thread Starter
I've been looking all over for information on heating pads and pregnancy. In most articles the mom is using the heating pat for cramps or whatever and the advice is toward other ways to aliviate the symptoms.

My office is very cold. They are working on getting the brand new HVAC unit to distribute the air correctly but in the meantime it's cold. They won't let us use space heaters since it messes with the computer system and is a fire hazard. I have been coping by dressing very warmly and I have a heating pad attached to the back of my seat.

I've seen a few messages that go something "OMG, Heating pads NOOOOO!!!!!!". Sometimes they are in all caps. There does seem to be some medical evidence about overheating the embryo is bad. I don't think my overall body temperature is being raised significantly since my fingers are still cold.

Anyone else use a heating pad during pregnancy and not turn out a mutated alien baby? Any suggestion for keeping warm and still looking professional at work?

Well, you don't want to get your body temperature up too high, but I guess you could take your temperature to check. I've been trying to cut back on using mine, or at least not put it right on my belly.

I always thought/was told that a heating pad is OK?? I thought it only mattered if your internal body temperature reached a too high temp.

I remember seeing a thread about this when I was pregnant before.. Maybe in the May DDC. Can't remember for sure.
