i think i gave myself dandruff?

I've been no-pooing for almost a year now, washing about every 3-4 days (and the last day is usually a stretch!) I use just over 1/2 a tsp of bs in about an oz of water, and then about 1 oz of water w/11 oz. wdv to rinse.. the past few days it looks like i've got some dandruff going on.. I'm fairly certain that I'm rinsing all the bs out because i'm using less and i've never had this problem before..

any ideas?

I'll be watching this thread. My story is nearly the same as yours. I've been no-pooing for a couple of years now, and I've never had a dandruff problem - until a few weeks ago. I have very long hair and put 4 tablespoons of bs in 4 cups of water, massage that in, and rinse it out. Then, I put a splash of acv into another 4 cups of water, pour it over my head and rinse it out. I wash at about the same frequency as you (and that last day is also a stretch for me).

I was thinking it might be the weather here. I'm in Texas, and it keeps going from freezing to 70's (or 80's!), often within a single day.

I was reading some past no-poo dandruff threads, and I think I'll try putting a few drops of tea tree oil into the bs-water mix next time I wash. Hopefully, that will make a difference.

Is your scalp maybe a little dry and that's why it's flaking? I put about 1/2 a tsp of honey in the water with the bs.

Are you sure it's dandruff (from a fungus) not just regular skin flakes? If it's from a fungus then yes, TTO should do the trick.

Your head does have some flakes of dead skin normally, well your skin does too but your clothes usually rub them off. When I did no-poo I did "water only" and it really helps to just RINSE your hair in the water every day after brushing with a boar bristle brush. Kiindof like exfoliation for the scalp and water to rinse the skin cells away.

the way it appeared, and then disappeared when I used TTO makes me think it was dandruff.. i still have a tiny bit, but it's mostly gone now!

I have been making up a mix of honey, a bit of baking soda and a few drops of tea tree oil. It has been helping with my dry scalp quite a bit. I bet it would work well to use brown sugar in with honey too b/c that would be very exfoliating for the scalp.

Have you considered using more baking soda and letting that act as a bit of an exfoliant by scrubbing your scalp a bit before rinsing?

I use a good bit more bs, with honey, and water to make it a slurry, scrub my scalp after pouring it such that it gets everywhere, and then let it sit on my head while I do the rest of my shower. Then I rinse, then do the diluted acv rinse. If you don't use too much water for the amount of baking soda, not all of it dissolves.

I like that brown sugar idea, but it would dissolve in the water I use in my method.
Reminds me that the sugar scrub I used to make was nice on the rest of my skin though.
