what do you think about our recent apt...

I'm interested in what you all have to think about how our recent 2.5 year old dentists appt went.

She did the oral exam, and he (very obvious) has a cavity in between his two front teeth and one on the front of his tooth next to that. They are both very small, about the size of a flake of pepper. She didn't want to do anything and actually didn't even say they were a cavity just, "don't worry about that".

She did say he has enamel problems on his top molars (something he was born with)

Also she wants to do sealants on the LOWER molars because the crevices in his teeth (ust the shape of them) are deep.

Should I get a second opinion? Is leaving these cavity's alone ok? We brush reg, and use mi paste daily. Xylitol mints throughout the day also...

I personally would get either Xylitol granular - looks like sugar - and make a syrup from it. 1 tsp + a tsp water, then take a baby wash cloth or Qtip and bathe your little ones teeth with this solution 2 or 3 times a day, especially before nap and at bedtime. DO NOT RINSE this solution off with water! OR, get Spiffies [www.spiffies.com]. In the long run the granular will be the cheapest.

I'm speaking from experience, my now 3.7 DS HAD ECC! $3400 worth of dental work when he was only 18 months; but because they could not immediately get an operating room at the local hospital he was put on hold for 6 months and in that time my mom found out about Xylitol and homeopathic/cell salts and we began using them for my little boy.

Now, he has one 'arrested' cavity, all the others - something like 14 have been remineralized. Unfortunately he does have a broken dead tooth and 2 other broken teeth in front - he took a mouth dive onto my headboard when he was 2 or so...he bounces, skips, jumps, runs and scares the life out of me and mom. The dead tooth he's seeing a dentist the 17th about.

But he talks, never stops; eats, and is always smiling! If your little one likes grape flavor get Emerald Forest Grape Blizzard candies [www.emeraldforestxylitol.com], they come 100 in each tin and cost $2.99. And they are 100% Xylitol.

Thank you for the response!! I actually do use the emerald forest mints, my son loves them, he has them as a "treat" after brushing teeth and throughout the day. Also I dip the toothbrush in xylitol and water and brush on as well like you mentioned. I have no idea if all this is helping, since my dentist didn't even say anything about the cavities. (I was a bit shook up from my ds screaming and crying I was trying to rush out of there, wish I would have asked her more!)

Are you doing anything else different other than xylitol, diet or any special toothpaste ect? I think his cavity has gotten slightly larger, but if any very very slightly in the past six months.
