what would you use for an UNFERMENTED soy trial?

I'm trying to sort out what my DS is reacting to. He reacted to something in Ghiradelli white choc. chips and I thought it was dairy but now I'm thinking he doesn't have problems with dairy. They also contain soy lecithin so I think I need to do a soy trial. The only soy I eat is the occasional soy lecithin in chocolate products, a few supplements that contain soy oil, and whatever soy is in processed foods when I eat those (couple of times a month). I can't use fermented soy because it's high in natural food chemicals and I haven't determined yet if DS is sensitive to food chemicals like his sister. Any suggestions on what to use for an unfermented soy trial?

I'd probably go straight to the source with edamame.

How does it taste? I've never deliberately eaten a straight soy product.

And congrats!

Edamame is actually very nice tasting. You eat it like you would a pea - split open the pod and eat the beans from inside. They're slightly sweet and a bit vegetal tasting. Really they only need a bit of a boil and then a sprinkling with sea salt. They're often served at Japanese restaurants that way.

I know I can find them frozen at Trader Joes, or several other local grocery stores.
