How is everyone today? So I decided to play around with my crystal this morning (ok, well a rock on a string). It said my Vit D capsules were bad and other supps I have (CLO, magnesium, glutamine) are good - I haven't been taking any of these because I suspected one was bad. It said the Kirkman Labs pro-bio gold probiotics I was taking were bad - I switched to some new probiotics I just ordered from Custom Probiotics on Friday because I suspected DD was reacting to the FOS. It said the Custom Probiotics were good. It said several foods were good that I was hoping to trial at some point (avocado, lentils, pinto beans). It did not give me an answer on cane sugar or water kefir (which I make with cane sugar). This is also consistent with what the medical intuitive told me. The intuitive said to watch the cane sugar and only have small amounts. Anyone know of a good sweetener I can use for water kefir other than cane sugar? I can use maple sugar but not sure how that would taste.

So now I am so tempted to add the good things back into my diet at once and see what happens!

Against the advice of everyone in the TF forum, I use honey for my water kefir, since it's the only sweetener that DD doesn't react to. AND, it makes a deeeeelicious kefir. : Just make sure that you keep some backup grains, because they won't grow in they honey. And supposedly they will eventually die, but mine haven't yet. So every so often I make a batch with sucanat, and my grains triple, and then I still the extras in the fridge. Now I have so many that I don't know what to do with them.

I have heard not to use honey but good to know it isn't killing your grains. Maybe I will use sucanat and grow the grains so I have some to save, then use the honey. Thanks!

CS - Another question. What kind of honey do you use and how much do you use? I only have expensive local raw honey right now and I don't think I want to use a lot of that every day.

SIL just called (at 10:30am) to tell me that my nephew's birthday party's at 1pm. *sigh* I have nothing (dessert type stuff) for ds1 and we're broke so I can't just go out and grab ice "cream" for him. Ugh. To make things even better, it's at a pizza place. I really hope they won't mind me bringing in an Amy's pizza.
I'd say with that kind of notice, we weren't coming (but that's just me). I actually keep frozen safe chocolate cupcakes in the freezer for just such an occasion. We only bring them to birthday parties.

DH would laugh that you think I'm organized. He thinks I'm so scatterbrained and disorganized. He marvels at the job I used to have that was all compliance and paperwork and auditing. I'm one of those people that says I have to let the dog out. As I pass the dryer, I start unloading, and I pull out a towel and put it away in the linen closet, and remember to take my vitamins (which are in there) and then decide that I should organize that area. Then I hear the dog barking and wonder where she is!

I swear, I wish we were on that desert island, so I could supply safe food for y'all. I'd just deliver dinner to everyone. Especially the pregnant and underweight people. I need to start a delivery service.

I keep intending to make safe cupcakes for the freezer but I've been feeling lucky to get supper made. I'm really looking forward to cooking getting easier. I have a 2 week supper plan laid out, so that should help some.

You actually sound incredibly like me. I can organize other people's stuff, just not my own. My bosses (when I was working) were always incredibly surprised to learn I wasn't organized at home, because I usually made my work place operate like clockwork- to the point that they knew I was having a bad day if they came in at a certain time and a certain task wasn't done.

You're such a sweetheart, Kathy. Always thinking about others.

Send me some, lol!!!

So I guess I missed the beet pee thread--what is it supposed to show if your pee is red/pink? Just curious...

ETA: DH has been lots better (less stressed) since reading Getting Things Done by David Allen--and it's helped my paper stash diminish to a manageable degree, lol...

I was thinking the same thing. I haven't tried water kefir yet.
This is the "beet pee thread" (). I can't remember, but I think it had to do with being zinc deficient. No time to go back and look right now though.

ETA: I went and looked anyway. It means low Hydrochloric acid, which means low zinc.

Whoa, so low HCA is caused by zinc deficiency? That's a new one for me! I am low in HCA and use raw apple cider vinegar(when I remember) to aid digestion...hmmm...

I tried the milk kefir when we had goats and I thought they'd work for us but threw them out when we realized dairy of all sorts was a factor.

I've thought about trying kefir or kombucha, too...

It's actually a vicious cycle, that one. Low zinc causes low HCl, which causes you to not absorb zinc and magnesium (both required for HCl production), which causes you to not produce enough HCl which.... You get the idea. Meanwhile, the other functions in your body which require zinc (or magnesium or any of the other vitamins and minerals you're low on because of reduced digestion) are moving sluggishly as well because they're being starved of nutrients also... Good times.

Yeah, I'm using ridiculously expensive local, raw honey. But I tried another honey once (not raw), and it seemed like DD reacted, so I've been too scared to try another one. But I think once I start making this stuff again regularly (I've been kind of slacking lately), I will get some cheaper stuff. I think Azure sells honey by the gallon for a decent price. Ooh- I just looked. They have raw clover (my favorite) honey for about $23/gallon (or 5 gallons for $108!). I'm paying about $8 for a small jar for my current stuff.

My raw local honey is 27$ a gallon..(up from 25$ last yr). We've gone through 3 gallons since June...but it really is all we use aside fron the occassional agave nectar or stevia. And I know I need a chat today--I left the kids with DH for a few hrs to peruse MDC!:

I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I'm chicken like that.

I think there are just so many things that are inter-related that it's difficult for us to say (or ask) what we want to within specific threads without completely derailing the thread. Then, combine that with the fact that we all love each other and we're just a party waiting to happen.

I will take some off your hands! You can just ship 'em in the mail, right?

Also - I bet you could use beet sugar for it... $3/3lbs on amazon.

That is ME!!!! DH teases me about it all the time. My house is organized in random places at random times.

I'm soooo there.
If we ever get a septic system at our lake place, I'll invite everyone to camp there!
I got this ridiculously expensive Hawaiian honey at the Whole Foods in Las Vegas. It was $16 for a little jar. It tasted like FROSTING. It didn't have the price on the shelf or I wouldn't have bought it but it sure was good.
DS is screaming from upstairs, gotta go.

So I just learned how to sub to a post! I've been here how many years???
Had to confess to someone, right?
ETA: I just figured out the reason that Jacqueline had lost weight...Congratulations! On the pregnancy, not the weight loss...

I really need to try some beet sugar. Has anyone used it? Is it yummy? Would it work in my muffins? (I can use honey... but they're just not as good as with cane sugar.)

Yeah- I can mail you some for sure. PM me your address. Just keep in mind that they've been in my fridge for a few weeks, so it will take a few batches to get them going again.

Any other allergy mamas want some grains? I seriously have a ton.
