Which is the best oatmeal?

I recently read that most rolled oats are rancid. I don't have my own oat roller and have no more room for more gadgets. Is there a good brand of rolled oats, that are freshly rolled when you buy them?

I buy GF steel cut oats. I think steel cut tend not to be rancid as much as rolled. Do you like steel cut or is this for baking?

How do you know if your rolled oats are rancid?

You don't - that's the problem.

Huh. So how do we know that most rolled oats are rancid, then? Does rancid in this case mean "less than optimal nutrition" or "harmful if consumed?"
