bum genius 3.0 Pocket OR organic AIO???

we are trying to decide which cloth diapers to try and think we've narrowed it down to deciding between:

bum genius 3.0 one size fits all (these are pocket diapers) and
bum genius Organic one size fits all AIO

our major question is - do you sacrifice absorbency with the organic AIOs since you can't stuff them with inserts (as opposed to the 3.0)?

thanks!!

I would get the pockets... the BG AIOs don't have a stay dry layer next to baby's skin and that is something we really need in a diaper.

I wanted to like the AIO since it cuts out the stuffing and unstuffing of the pocket one-size, but we've never had luck with them. The AIOs always leak on me! I've rarely (3-5 times in 6 months) had a leak with the BG pocket one-size (and those times it was really my fault for leaving the diaper too long over night). I don't even use extra inserts in the pocket; the regular insert is plenty absorbent for us.

I LOVE the organic AIOs - you really have to prep them a bunch but then they absorb a ton. My dd doesn't poop very often, and I can take her out shopping for 2 hours, and then she falls asleep for a nap for 2 or 3 more hours, and it is still fine. Not all babies need the stay-dry microfleece - mine certainly doesn't, and it is nice to have only organic cotton on her skin. Also, you can add absorbency by putting a hemp or cotton doubler under the layers. If I put a small hemp doubler in the organic cotton AIO, my heavy-wetting, eat-all-night, sleep-for-12-hours dd will still be leak-free in the morning! Plus, they are super-trim. I think the problem most people have with them is they are not prepping them enough - like 5-10 washes and being dried in the dryer.

I think one of the reason why some people need the stay-dry layer is that using the stay-dry fleece can mask a lot of detergent and wash routine problems. For example, my ds2 has very sensitive skin and if I use a "bad" detergent or don't rinse enough and then put him in a cotton diaper, he will get a blistering rash. But, same load of dipes, put him in microfleece or microsuede, and no rash. (B/c the fleece keeps any moisture away from the skin.) That is why I am very careful to use good detergent and rinse thoroughly.

People like both diapers for different reasons. Some people only use the pockets, others love the AIOs. If you really aren't sure, I would try one of each before investing in a stash of either diaper.

Sorry to thread crash, but I have a question about prepping the organics. I bought one to try out. Do I need to wash it all of those times before using it? Or should I go ahead and use it realizing that it isn't at full absorbency?

OP, I bought the organic to try because of the snaps. I thought it was a pocket for some reason. I'm not sure if I'll like the AIO, but I'm going to try it out to see. I think the perfect diaper would be a Bum Genius 3.0 with snaps instead of aplix for the closure.

I *heart* the organic AI2's.... I didn't think I would be crazy about them but they are so trim and fast drying and plus they now come with SNAPS - huge bonus for us!!

I love the organic AIO's. Even more now that they come in SNAPS! I really want to sell off my entire stash of pockets to fund BG OS AIO's.

They dry quickly and absorb a ton (like Galatea said, you have to prep them). My kid doesn't seem to mind the wet feeling, and it's fine with me because I want him to know when he pees in preparation of potty learning. Also, the organic cotton is against his skin instead of synthetic fabric, like the BG pockets or regular AIO's have.

I washed them like this to prep: wash, wash dry; wash, wash dry. That only takes about 2 hours. (On hot each time.) So that's 4 washes. Then they will continue to improve over the next 5 washes or so. I suppose you could just start using them but some babies will get a rash from the oils in new cotton diapers.

Hmmm... well, I'm really happy with the pocket one-size BG, but on your recommendations I'm going to wash, wash, wash the organic AIO and see if it works better for us. I do think it gives a trimmer fit, which would be nice. Also, maybe I'm imagining things, but the organic AIO seems like it would fit my super-chunky baby for longer...
