Favorite books for two year olds?

Thread Starter
I was wondering what books your kids like a lot.
DD just started getting into Fancy Nancy but she also likes Brown Bear, Maisy books, French books daddy reads to her, and some other misc. dictionary type books.

Any new suggestions?

My son loves Curious George books. He will have us read those to him for hours.

Sandra Boynton is great for that age group.

My kids at that age have always loved Mama Mama and Papa Papa http://www.amazon.com/Mama-Papa-Boar...3984358&sr=8-1

They have the bonus of showing animals in their natural environment APing their babies.

Another set of very AP-friendly books is the Backpack Baby series by Miriam Cohen. My dd loves those.

We also like Hop on Pop and Go, Dog, Go.

Lol. My daughter (21 m) loves 'Go, dog, go'. I find it rather bizarre and annoying, although it is growing on me because she likes it so much. She is starting to 'read' it to herself.

I like the books by Anna Milbourne, and dd likes them too.

My 2yo's favorite of the moment is Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats.
She's also been enjoying Lauren Child's I am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go To Bed from the Charlie and Lola series. I love this one!

My DD is not quite two yet. ( Good thing, she is getting too big, too fast!)

But I have a huge children's library from my nanny days and can tell you of some favorites.

The If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series (Laura Numeroff) are always well-loved.

The Napping House & The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry & the Big Hungry Bear by Audrey Wood

Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae

Llama Llama Red Pajama & Llama Llama Mad at Mama by Andrea Dewdney

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Bear Snores On by Karam Wilson (or pretty much any book by her!!!)

Alice the Fairy by David Shannon

Knuffle Bunny & Knuffle Bunny Too by Mo Willems

Whoever You Are & Time For Bed by Mem Fox

Isla & Abuelita by Arthur Dorros

Noisy Nora by Rosemary Wells

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo by Kevin Lewis

Click, Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin

Olivia (ALL of them) by Ian Falconer

Priscilla and the Pink Planet by Nathaniel Hobbie and Jocelyn Hobbie

Lily's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes ( I also like most of his other books but this one is by far my favorite!)

I agree w/ pp

about Brown Bear

and my 2 y/o loves the If you give a mouse a cookie series, pig a pancake, moose a muffin !!

He also is loving Dr, Seuss

DD is starting to get into Dr Seuss, and of course I can't emphasize enough how great Sandra Boynton books are... She likes the Doggies book (a "counting and barking book" lol...)

One of my current favourites, which she's not quite into yet, is called "Grumpy Bird". I think it's hilarious and brilliant. I hope she likes it soon lol... Maybe it's more for a 3-5yo than a 2yo? I dunno.

I second or third the suggestions for Dr. Seuss and Sandra Boynton, as well as the Numeroff books.

Right now some of DS's favorite books are:

Put Me In The Zoo by Robert Lopshire
The Little Bear series of books by Maurice Sendak
Take Me Out of The Bathtub (and other silly dilly songs) and I'm Still Here In The Bathtub by Alan Katz
Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel
Ten Little Fish by Audrey Wood

My favorite to read and one that my 27 mo requests often is "Whoever You Are"

I second the Curious George suggestion. We got a collection of 8 or 9 stories for Christmas, and we read at least 2 every night. George is the first request of any reading session.

DS is into any books reflecting his current curiousity--it was trucks for a long time, then Halloween books, then Christmas, now it's snowmen.

He also likes the Clifford books. I think they're dull, but he loves them.

Cordoroy (nice recall from my childhood)
Carlo and the Really Nice Librarian
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Max Cleans Up (Rosemary Wells)
Make Way for Ducklings
Animalia
Authors & Series (board books): Eric Carle, Karen Katz, "My First ..." (Body Book, Truck book, Animal book--photo collages)

Hope that helps and thanks for the thread--I always get a few great new book ideas from these threads!

My 20 month old loves Robert Munch's books. I think they are aimed at older kids but she loves them just the same. She especially likes "Mud Puddle" & "Paper Bag Princess". I also second "Frog & Toad" she loves those too.

For some reason she hates Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (I love it). She gets mad if I try to read it to her!

Our two favorite bedtime books are

Time for Bed
http://www.amazon.com/Time-Bed-Big-B...4059579&sr=8-1

I Love You as Much
http://www.amazon.com/I-Love-You-As-...4059601&sr=1-1

Both are repetitive with beautiful, sleepy illustrations.

Anything by Elsa Beskow. She is loving Pelle's New Suit these days!
