To those of you opposed to vaccines for religious reasons...

Would you be opposed to vaccines created without the use of human or animal cells? There is a lot of research being done on DNA vaccine development, and these vaccines can be created without human or monkey cells.

Perhaps this has been discussed already. If not, here is one of many reviews on the topic.

abstract/fulltext

"DNA vaccines have been used to stimulate protective immunity against many infectious pathogens, malignancies, and autoimmune disorders in animal models. Plasmid DNA encoding a polypeptide protein antigen is introduced into a host where it enters host cells and serves as an epigenetic template for the high-efficiency translation of its antigen. An immune response, which is mediated by the cellular and/or humoral arms of the immune system and is specific for the plasmid-encoded antigen, ensues."

probably not. there is a lot more to my religious stance then the use of animal and human cells. but if all those things were removed, then on the religious end of things, that aspect of my choice might be dissolved (if its an all natural prevention to disease, that would be a lot like what we do currently by taking vitamins, probiotics, and taking care of our bodies)

I would still be opposed.

im opposed to injecting toxins into my children's bodies. period.

Nope. I believe that God designed our bodies to withstand disease and it is our responsibility to do all we can to keep our immune system functioning properly.

i'd still be opposed. too many other ingredients i'm not comfortable with.

My religious opposition to vaccines is based on my belief in the natural way of things. Allowing my children to build natural immunities is natural and better for my children and the planet. Messing around with nature by using vaccinations (and genetically-modified food, chemical pesticides, and so forth) is what goes against my religious beliefs.

I'm opposed to injecting the human body with questionable "medicine" for no good reason. I don't take drugs my doc would like me to take for the same reasons.

I agree with pp. My religious reasons go way beyond how the vaccines are made. I believe that vaccination, in general, is a horribly flawed idea.

They would still likely violate my religion of evolution because I doubt under strict scrutiny of safety and efficacy they would fare well. If they did, with much more scientifically pure testing than those current vaccines receive, I would be open to them.

I will wait for rigorous, objective studies that satify me until hell freezes over, though.

As a lapsed Catholic, I am fascinated by this idea that I see on MDC quite a bit. It's my understanding that God designed our bodies to be perfect but then we fell and now our bodies are imperfect and subject to disease (which did not exist before the Fall). Do you depart from orthodox theology on this matter, or have I got it wrong?

(I hope you don't mind me asking this question. It's not meant to attack you; I'm just really, sincerely curious. If I could do another BA, it would be partly in theology.)

Maybe I should take this query to Religious Studies or Health and Healing or both . . .

I don't think she is saying our bodies are perfect, but that they are designed to withstand disease when we take care of it. And that can mean "as a whole"... it doesn't mean that life will never be stolen through disease. The difference between disease and vaccines though, is one is naturally occuring, and one is not. If you were to "play God" by vaccinating your child, and your child died as a result, this would be very different from your child catching a disease, and not being able to overcome it.

thats my take on it, for what its worth, though I realize the question wasnt directed at me.

To OP,
No that would not make a difference for me.

Would God create humans so flawed that they needed to have all these vaccines to be safe from disease and dying?

To Murihiku,
I don't think the original sin caused our bodies to be more prone to disease than before. We all have choices on how to treat our bodies. I do believe those who do not treat their body the way it is intended to be treated will be more prone to diseases than others.
