Please tell me what these gauge instrutions mean.

This is my first project where gauge matters everything else I´ve done has been felted, a scarf, my own design, etc-. I want to make sure I do it correctly so:

GAUGE

30 sts = 4”; 41 rows = 4” in St st

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

Note: Since there is so much stretch in the k2, p2 ribbing, check your gauge in St st

What does St st mean? Thanks!
