Petussis question

I've heard a number of times that pertussis goes through cycles of something like every 2-5 years or so, and that these cycles still take place even in vaccinated populations, etc. Does anyone have numbers on this? I've done a little looking and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for yet.

not sure. me, my son, and dd all got whooping cough when the baby was a few months old. (DS1 and DD both vaxxed for this, DS2 the baby was not) well, we all got SUPER sick... but DS2 just got a little cold and an ear infection. he got sick after all of us and better before we all did too... just my experience.

The CDC cite might have what you are looking for. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/per...uide/guide.htm

Not sure exactly what you are looking for? % of vaxed population? Evidence of WC being cyclical?

In the prevaccine era pertussis epidemics followed a cyclic pattern, with peaks every 2 to 5 years. With the marked reduction of pertussis by vaccination, the same cyclic pattern still occurs.

Serologic studies suggest that the rate of B pertussis infection in adolescents and adults is 2.0% per year. The rate of cough illnesses (pertussis) caused by B pertussis infection in adolescents and adults is between 370 and 1500 per 100 000 population. These data suggest that there are between 800 000 and 3.3 million cases per year in the United States.
