Unsure what to use as a fastener...

I am making about 10-16 fitted diapers and am doing great, but after making 3 I am unsure what I want to use to fasten them. In thinking through it I have a few options:
1. just use pins...seems the easiest solution, but then would have to keep them on hand.
2. snaps, but I don't have a snap press and it seems a bit time consuming sewing them all on.
3. velcro, but have heard it is difficult to sew on and snaps the thread and needles often.
4. put stings on the tabs to make a tie on, it seems like the easiest/best solution, but haven't seen much of this and don't know if their are any draw backs to this...

What have you done?

I've never used strings but it sounds like a cute idea! I'd just make sure you sew them on really well (in at least two places) and put some loops on the front of the diaper to thread them through so the front of the diaper stays up and doesn't droop (maybe not a problem if you use wraps instead of pull-up covers). I'd also make them kind of wide so they are more comfortable for the baby.

I like to just fasten with pins. It's so simple and you don't have to worry about fasteners falling off or velcro getting pilly stuff in it.

If you do strings, use ribbon or something...glidey for them. My mom made me a bunch of diapers with strings. The ribbon ones are fine, but the other ones absorb the pee & are really hard to untie when they're wet.

I use velcro for mine & I haven't had any problems with it. Except for bending the pins trying to pin it on.

I just fasten mine with a snappi. That way it's very adjustable (it essentially becomes a one size diaper). Velcro always becomes un-sticky (but I may be doing something wrong). I'm really intrigued about the strings though--seems like a good idea. I wonder if they'll tangle in the wash? I know in some countries they fasten prefolds (or maybe flats??) with ties. Seems a good idea.

Having now done diapers for awhile, and sewn plenty of different ways, I honestly have to say I'd do them all in snaps if I could do it all again. The velcro is ok, but it kills me that it gets fuzz attached, and always manages to stick on something in the wash which makes the dipes "age" faster. I'm sewing dipes for the next babe and will find someone with a snap press to do my snaps, I figure it's a good investment. JMHO!

I'm trying to decide the same thing myself, but have ruled out pins - mostly thinking about sleepy-mama-in-the-semi-darkness nighttime diaper changes....
