We just found out a good friend is pregnant w/ her 1st babe. She is interested in doing cloth. She will most likely be buying her own pfs, so I want to get her something else .

favorite non pf diaper for a nb?

favorite diaper cover for a nb? does it have a cut out for a healing cord?

I like bummis super brites in NB. I like the BSWW, too, but they don't have the cut out. Proraps are good, too.

I really like fitteds. I love bububebe fitteds (hyena cart), especially the newborn ones.

My favorite cover for NB that I used was the Cot'n Wrap, since it's so soft and there's no plastic touching baby anywhere, plus it has big leg gussets in case of skinny legs. I don't think it has a cutout, but what I did was put it on backwards at first, as the elastic is then high enough that it made a nice pouch around the cord stump and protected it from clothes moving around too. Creative, but I liked it.

I only used prefolds, so I have no input on other diapers. And I used pins until about 6 weeks when I left them in the bathroom, so I just grabbed the snappi and gave it a try. I like pins or snappi pretty much equally, both have pros and cons.

The Thirsties X-Small has the cut out. Haven't used it yet on a newborn though, but in a month I'll know how it works!

Nanipoo Newborn Fitted Diapers

Look at the cuteness she makes over there at Nanipoo.

Newborn fitted diapers for less than $10 and they are GORGEOUS.

I bought one of these for my newborn's cloth diaper pictures.

If you friend likes prefolds, she'll already have covers so you could get her some of these cute cute fitteds.

They are great diapers too!

Thirsties and fitteds. I am going to use them with the next one. SO many people have told me how well they work for a NB.

I liked Sandy's x-smalls from Motherease a lot.
They're a little large on a very small newborn, but they work fine, and they will fit longer because of being a little full-cut.

Kissaluvs size 0's have a good reputation, too. I've never tried them, but a friend did.

For covers, I like wool for softness on tender skin. Our Disana pull-on covers were always my favorite. They're so soft, that you don't even have to worry about friction on the cord.

I didn't discover cloth until after my ds was a bit older, but I'll be cd'ing my first nb in Aug! I plan to use mostly pf's, and will be trying a few Thirsties fab fitteds, a few Sugar Peas 2-size fitted diapers (hemp) with Thirsties covers... I really like the sugarpeas for my ds because the hemp is so absorbant, they dry quickly and come in only 2 sizes. that means buying less diapers, but getting a better fit than a one-size. That's my 2 cents!
