We just remembered that you can cash in frequent flyer miles for gift cards. : We thought we could use them for Christmas/Birthdays this year.

So, If you had $500+ to spend @ Amazon.com for a 5 1/2 yo, a 3 yo, and a six mo. What would you get? What are your favorite toys/books/works etc?

This sounds like fun. I'll actually go through this week and put together some of my favorite books, games, etc. I can find on amazon.com into my amazon store. Not that you have to purchase from there, but if you want, there's a link on the top left that takes you to amazon. That's just my thoughts.

I'll post a link when I do it.

sounds fun!

not sure if you can buy it on Amazon but with the multiaged chidlren, do you already have a nice train table? or a nice easel with art supplies? Those are some of the favorites here that get sooo much play. Of course, I like a lot of the Melissa & Doug stuff too and many of the leapfrog products too. I made my own sandpaper letters but I'd be on the lookout for those if I had the budget to just buy them!

I hope this doesn't violate a terms of service thing for advertising. If it does, I apologize. I just noticed I could help answer this so I am trying to help a little.

Of course, I assume you would be more familiar with their own interests, so you might have better ideas than these. I put together a few things because these questions continually come up. The items on this page don't focus a lot on interest-specific things (such as TV shows). I tried to pick stuff out that you would normally not initially think of.

It starts off on the infant page. I don't really know what's cool in the world of infant toys. Be sure to look at the ages, since many toys might be choking hazards.

My favorite items I put on there included:
--The bike (if it's not your child's "style" just see below in this message). It can be found on the 3 year old page and 6 year old page.
--The Architectural unit block set.
--I didn't put a lot on here, but I love everything in the 6 year old page. The make your own story to get illustrated = fantastic!

On the all 3 kids page, there is an easel. Of course the infant won't use it, but there will be a time when you might have a Toddler, 5 year old, and 7 year old and they'll all want to use it at the same time. So it's not a toy that will be easily outgrown. I think this and the IlluStory are my two favorite things.

Once you see what I have, you can do one of two things. For some reason, the shopping cart does not carry over between that page and amazon. You'll want to click on "proceed to checkout" then it will carry over. You can then browse through amazon.com to see what you want and continue shopping that way. If you didn't see anything you want to purchase, to make it easy, just click on the amazon.com link on the top left and it will take you to amazon and you can shop from there.

Here's a link to ALL their toys:

Finally, check out my Montessori book store. There is a page for materials (unlike what the previous person said, I would not purchase specialized Montessori materials, like sandpaper letters. Those things are for school). There are things I have on there such as items for polishing, small cleaning supplies, and beading materials that are ideal for home that are also used in the schools.

Hope this helps!

I'd purchase the best unit-block set, and block storage shelf, that I could get for the money. I've never been able to get a lot of block materials on amazon, but have bot needed since I bought our half-school set from Community Playthings 4 years ago. Block play is so invaluable when it comes to imaginative play, visual-spatial abilities, and future mathematical reasoning, that it is a must for the home. Montessori environments have unit-block LIKE works (the broad stair, the pink tower) but they are not open-ended like unit blocks. Just my OPINION though, no need for Montessori pedagogues to get totally offended and go on attack-mode, okay?
