breathability

Okay wool enthusiasts- I'm starting to get it. I can't find breathablity numbers/facts on any PUL/Nylon cover! I called Bummis and Bumkins - their covers are not breathable according to them although Bumpkins has the vent...I did purchase PUL and nylon covers for newborn as well as 3 wool. I also have 3 wool smalls, 3 medium wools and 2 large wools. I was going to supplement my wool cover stash with PUL or nylon covers but now I'm not sure. I'm not due until June and it's HOT here - so I don't want a non breathable cover!

Question 1: Does anyone have any actual FACTS or breathablilty numbers on any of the PUL/nylon covers? (Such as the diaper has a breathablilty factor of X or is 5% breathable or something and compare it to something for reference like cotton or a paper diaper)

Question 2: If I go all wool this time around - how many covers do I need? Is it the usual 6-8 small, 4 medium and 4 large or can I get away with less?

In case it matters I'm using flats, and some Crickett's fitteds.

TIA!!!

We use a combo of PUL and wool covers with ds, and really haven't noticed a problem with breathability. He gets a bit sweaty in summer no matter what he's wearing.

I like my wool, but I probably will mostly use PUL with my nb (due Aug) because they don't need much drying time and they are easier to wash if they get poop on them, which happens a lot with nb's!! I don't really wash my wool that often, because I find it doesn't need it, but I am lazy about wool when it gets poopy - don't like cleaning it.

But there's a lot of mamas who use it successfully and love it!

You could always get a combo for when baby is little - then you'll figure out what works for you.

I'm all for the convenience of PUL; however after reading up on how it's made I see that it's better than vinyl - but not much......makes me think that it's just not worth it.....diaperpin has an article:

that made me really rethink PUL covers - which I HATE because I love PUL wraps!!! Okay so I'm obsessing!!!!

I think having 3-4 wool covers is just fine - they air out well between wet changes, I always washed wool covers maybe once a week (the most often) to once every two weeks and did so one by one so I had plenty to alternate with during changes. And 6-8 smalls seems like a big number. . . I maybe had 6 small covers total (I mean I'd have loved more to make it easier on myself, but we did just fine. I actually would do more covers in the larger sizes cause it was harder to fit in hand laundry with a kid who wants to do stuff with you than an infant).

Thinking about other covers. . . I did like bumkins and found them a lot more breathable than other covers of that style due to both the nylon and venting (but didn't do any kind of qualitative study. )

Thanks - maybe it's just because I'm pregnant and crazier than usual but I got to where I just didn't feel comfortable buying PUL ones anymore.

3-4 covers sounds like a better number!
