any recommendations for mother/daughter book club?

Hi Everyone. My sixth grade daughter and I are in a mother daughter reading club. We are finishing our first selection, Feathers by Jacqueline Woodson. We are to have some suggestions for our next book and maybe some projects to accompany it --by wednesday. Yikes! I'm not up on my preteen lit. Most of my reading has been non-fiction garden/environmental or job related reading (bodywork/energy medicine, etc- maybe the kind of stuff that would ignite the preteen imagination- who knows). Please tell me your favorite fiction reads that would be appropriate for the middle school set. (And please don't recommend Twilight. haha)
Thanks in advance!

How about 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson?

Activity can involve envelopes and journeys and such. Good fun!

A Wrinkle in Time - Engle.
Activities - have people hypothesise about what could happen to you if you tesseract. Perhaps your body would come back put together differently - nose on top of head, arms on back of body....Create drawing

Number the Stars (Lois Lowry). There was a lot of ingenuity in this book. There is a scene where a girl is wearing shoes made of fish scales because leather is not avaiable. Perhaps they could make design shoes out of an alternate material of their choice?

Books by Sharon Creech are usually a good bet....

My daughter (11 y.o.) and I both really liked Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli....

Can't think of any others off the top of my head. You might find a mother/daugher list on Amazon.

Have fun with your book club : )

Thanks for the recommendations. I remember loving a Wrinkle in Time! We are going to read Homeless Birds by Gloria Whelan- about a young girl in India who is forced into an arranged marriage. Although we have the next selection, please keep sending recommendations! We hope to keep this group going for a while.
