Oh yeah AM thanks for the answer, that is what I thought! Makes perfect sense! Thanks again for bringing this thing back from the grave!

Where is the piano that was given to them? Anyone spot it in the new house? The old sofa was in the room with the big TV - Leah laid down on it for her nap after the walk. I would buy furniture before new appliances but that is just me.

When the babies were little Kate worked a few weekends a month at a local dialysis clinic so I would guess that she didn't have much contact with bed pans and barf.

I'm so glad to see the kids have so much space to run free... inside and out!! (Wish I did, too). It will be nice to see them actually get to be kids and maybe get dirty every once in a while, play with sticks, catch frogs, etc. Of any kids I know, these kids really deserve this place... where they can reap the rewards of the work they have been doing for the last few years. I missed the move in epis (only saw the woods one), did they say if the kids will get their own rooms, or if they get to pick??

It would be interesting to hear if some of them choose to share... I plan on having my 2 boys share a sleeping space and a play space and they can choose to have their own rooms when they get older if need be. I've heard of some families where all the kids like to sleep in one room and play in another, and maybe being multiples this need would be stronger??? I can't wait to see it all done!

Yay the thread is back!!

I love the G's new house set up too.

Is anyone watching Kate on Dr. Phil this afternoon? She looks great and is giving advice to the mom that just had the 8 babies in Calif.

I watched the show last night after not seeing it for a few weeks. I think the tractor ride with the kids was a bad idea. I could see that causing a very tragic accident.

I felt really bad for all the kids on the nature walk. I didn't see any footage of Jon trying to really "engage" his kids. He was mostly talking TO the camera and AT the kids.

Overall....I see this show ending fairly soon as the initial appeal of the show is gone.
For families that live in the country a tractor is part of their lives. I think as long as Jon watches his children and makes sure those that are on the ground are at a safe distance and that he holds on to the one on the tractor with him, then it will be fine. But yeah, I think he should have definitely done that type of thing when Kate was at home or he had help (which I'm sure the camera people helped out ). But we have a tractor and my kids have all ridden on it and started doing so at a young age, around 3/4. And I knew when they were ready. If I thought they wouldn't hold on and obey me then they wouldn't get on.

As far as the hike goes, my DH and I have always hiked with our children, since they were all in baby carriers. It's a part of our lives. Our children now hike alone in the woods around our home (they're older). I think it's something new for Jon and the kids, he was already frustrated because he was a single parent for a couple of days and he probably shouldn't have done it. He had no idea they would get out there and behave in the way that they did. I don't think he was overly harsh, but instead that he was just overly tired and frustrated with Kate being gone. In fact, when he said they were going hiking and I realized Kate wasn't home I thought he was crazy myself, especially since their kids aren't used to that lifestyle. It's not like they've been taking them all hiking since they were really small. I'd cut him some slack.

At least he was trying to do fun stuff with his children.

The hike was heartbreaking. The sight of those kids just crying and trudging along was painful. The scene of him snatching that stick out of the little girl's hand and her recoiling back and reflexively covering herself was downright gut-wrenching for me to watch. Throwing Colin's treasures away....just awful. Why??? That just seems so hateful. You can't help the kid put 3 leaves in his coat pocket? The name calling. Ugh.

I just can't believe they air this stuff and then talk about how wonderful this house and property is for the kids.

I don't know....I, too, am addicted to this show, but I can't take that stuff. It just makes me feel so sad.

I saw Kate on the Dr Phil show today. I thought she looked way too made up. I didn't recogonize her- she was wearing a TON of makeup, her hair was freshly colored and her teeth are so white and straight!

I watched her on Dr. Phil too. I noticed that when he talked about the book, he just said that Kate wrote it. And when they showed the book on the screen, most of Beth's name was cut off! Maybe it was just my tv, but somehow I doubt it.

What stood out for me when she was on Dr. Phil (I do not watch him-only did out of curiosity today-I need to say that ) was when she commented how helpers "disappeared" when the babies became toddlers, like she felt 1) people were obligated to help indefinitely or at all and 2) people flaked when things became more challenging.

It may be me and my rather detached relationship with family and rather obsessive need to be self sufficient, but I would never expect family or even friends to help-and I don't get that sense of entitlement at all!

I felt like there was a lot of hostility between Jon and Kate during the couch interview. She seemed really annoyed with him, "So what are you, a botanist now?" They both looked really unhappy. Their body language was really negative too. They were sitting as far away from each other as they possibly could on that small loveseat. I felt so awkward watching it, like I was seeing something I shouldn't be.

I was very surprised to hear that Kate was in New York on business during the filming of the hike epi. She also was away in LA for part of the big move epi. Wow, she travels a lot!

See now the whole stick breaking didn't really bother me, she was hitting someone with it and he was mad, I might have done the same exact thing, over reacting yes but if your tired and cranky it can happen, so I myself give him a pass on that one. However it did bother me that he would not let Collin collect the leaves. To me that is one part of hiking, finding cool stuff. I did think he should have gone home when the overwhelming crying started. Sometimes you need to say to yourself this is not working we will try another day. I think that while it's important that kids get some air, I don't think you should force children to be in the woods if they don't want to. Waiting until Kate was home and then taking the kids, including Cara, who might truly enjoy it, would have been a better choice.

I agree with the poster who said they would get furniture before new appliances.

Off to google the Dr Phil episode!

Did anyone else notice that cara and mady have not been on the last 2 shows?

i ~think~ parts of it are up on the dr. phil site

isn't the new place an hour or so from where they used to live? just wondering if the twins had to change schools ....

I'm betting Jon and Kate had a little tiff before that interview. Dh and I are quite hostile, like that, to each other after fights and until we make up.
She seemed very tired from her trip too.

I thought there was something weird... were they really not on them at all? I noticed a distinct lack of twins but only afterward so I didn't get to pay attention during and look out for them.

I was really shocked when I saw Jon break Alexis's stick. It was really sad to see the look of fear on her face when he did it too. I felt so sad watching her cry after he broke it. I realize that the hike was really frustrating for him because so many of the kids were not enjoying it. I just think that a better way to handle the situation would have been to take her stick away and explain to her in a calm way why he was taking it away.

I totally agree that your solution would have been better, but for someone who has anger issues I get why he did it. It's not right but it happens. Honestly it's his own fault that he was frustrated, the kids clearly didn't want to be there, he should have stayed home.

And yes I don't remember seeing the twins at all in either episode. Maybe they are keeping them out for a while because they asked? Wouldn't that be nice, now if only the 6 could ask the same thing!

I didn't like the comment either when Kate acted like it was odd that Collin likes to collect sticks and leaves, that is actually quite normal for this age. We still have boxes of rocks lying around from when my boys were that age, and even though I HATED having this crap all over my house, we let them do it. : I still just don't get them. You have like 900 acres, let the kids collect as much crap as he wants and leave it in the out building!
When they first started out I remember Kate complaining about the grocery bill and she was obsessively clipping coupons. That seems to have gone away. Where's the money for the new house coming from? FWIW, I thought the house they just moved out of was perfectly nice. Why did they move? Hadn't they lived there like less than 2 years. I still remember them moving into that house and getting it ready for the two older girls and the younger ones. It seems like just yesterday.
