Just wanted to share with my fellow non-vaxers:

This family is being tyrannized imo -
Quote:
"If you believe God is on your side," Cohen asked in the most recent of the two interviews, conducted last fall, "does that mean he's not on the side of someone who believes in immunization?"

"Do you have conversations with God? Has God told you not to immunize?" the attorney asked. "Explain it to me."

That would make me so mad! Every parent has a right to decide to vax or not to vax. I'm guessing if there was a philosphical exemption in NY, this wouldn't even be an issue. I don't understand why the gov't thinks it's their place to force this on parents!
Wow! They really are keen to immunize. In UK we don't have to give any reason to decline vax, its outrageous that you have this going on over there.

This has been going on for decades in the United States.

This is why I never say anything to anyone in real life about vaccinations.

like this are everywhere...and they think I am a ....but they have the political and economic power to make life very miserable for ME.

So I shut up.

Yet another reason for me to homeschool!

NY seems to be getting worse and worse on this front.

I just listended to all three video parts, I can't believe this is going on in the USA.

Quote:
Rita Palma told WND that being compelled to defend her faith before an attorney and answer questions about her family's lifestyle, diet, medicinal choices and personal convictions was "unbelievably invasive."

"It's almost beyond words what we were put through," Palma said. "It's such an abusive power, it's so arrogant that 'outrageous' doesn't even label it correctly. It's something you can't even imagine that somebody would take it upon themselves to do – to judge the sincerity of your belief.

This is her site - http://mykidsmychoice.com/home.html

"Parents call the shots" is her slogan. I love it!

Religion is a group of beliefs and morals, often centered - but not limited to - a higher power. To me, this means that as long as I personally believe vaxing is wrong, I do not have to do it.
I have heard about this video. It's disgusting. I can't believe people go through such bull just to give a child a couple of shots. Why exactly do they care whether or not anyone else vaxes their child? What concern is it of theirs?

The previous thread on this topic was removed & I am hesitant to go there again.

I will leave this open for the time being. Should any debate regarding religious beliefs or posts casting suspicion on anyone or namecalling of any sort arise, this thread will also be removed.

I don't think I'd have gone to any meetings against the school's atty without bringing my own legal council - especially after they'd already gone through it once. He was a real piece of work! I got about 2 min into the video on the link and was thinking "I'd have been walking out at this point!". I have a lot of negative things I can say about the state of Missouri, but one of the few really good things is that the immunization statute clearly states that a parent's specific religion or religious views cannot be questioned if they claim religious exemption (we don't have philisophical exemp. here). Just unbelievable!

I completely agree. If they knew it was coming, I don't understand why they didn't bring their own attorney. I would have borrowed and begged for money to get an attorney for something like that. This is probably the main reason many parents are trying to get a philo exemption pushed through.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the article said their attorney was there with them off-camera.

I honestly would like to see other sources other than the kookfest that is worldnetdaily.

Its not exactly a neutral source of news. Its self described as far right conservative news. They regularly feature Pat Buchanan, Bill OReilly, and others like that.

If you haven't read about the controversy, check out their wikipedia entry.

Worldnet daily commentators have written blatantly rascist articles about Hurricane Katrina stating, ""President Bush is not to blame for the rampant immorality of blacks" and accused "welfare-pampered blacks" of waiting for the federal government to save them from Hurricane Katrina.

They've even gone so far as to insinuate that 9/11 was God's way of punishing people for living amoral lives. Sick.

So I know the story is true as evidenced in other links after googling "palma vaccines new york." but here is a better link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/02/ny...gewanted=print

I just try to warn people off of worldnetdaily whenever possible. I've read too much inflammatory and insane stuff on there to be wary. If you are ever trying to educate using vaccinations, I'd avoid citing this website like the plague. It will shoot your credibility entirely if anyone looks into the source.

You'll also notice in the NYTimes link that a "conscientous objector" legislation has been introduced in NY.

Another reason I despise worldnetdaily. They never mention this type of thing. Only the negative.

NY is a crappy state for exemptions for sure. Hopefully the legislation will pass to remedy that.

Those poor parents! I just feel horibly sad for them, having to deal with a lawyer that was so harsh and rude and cold to them. I cannot imagine how they must have felt. What's sad is that I, in my opinion that is, would imagine that this lawyer would see this video and think he did a FABULOUS job. How could a school dist. employ such a man, to treat it's student's parents in such an abusive way? I firmly believe that this kind of "interrogation" should ONLY happen under the watch full eye of a judge and in a criminal tial- not a vaccene exemption hearing!!!

So sad for these people! Really, Really, Really sad

That bill has been submitted year after year but it never even gets voted on.

From the NYT link (emphasis my own):
Quote:
A pediatrician, Leo Distefano, of West Hartford, Conn., who is a member of the state’s chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said women were asking about vaccines before they even gave birth. “In almost every prenatal visit, it’s brought up,” he said. “There’s more and more of a consumer mentality. People are really cautious about just sticking with the routine schedule.”
Well slap me upside the head and call me Turquesa! You mean we're not health care consumers?!! I had no idea that we were brain-dead, assembly-line cattle in line to be branded and vaccinated! Why am I always the last to hear about these things?
