good carrier for a mama with a big belly?

i have a belly. its always there. its very soft and wiggley. i was all excited to get an ergo for my new babe but then i realized that it is probably alot like wearing a backpack that has a waist belt. on me, its just not a pretty sight. i think that belt thing gets lost in there! and then my belly sort of hangs out the bottom of my shirt because the belt has to be pulled really tight to actually get to my hip bones. ugh. so is there a good carrier for me that is not a ring sling or any over one shoulder type of thing? those type killed my shoulder and back when ds was little. i was thinking of a moby wrap because while it wraps around the waist, it stretches and covers a bigger area, but are those things just too hot in summer? it seems like alot of fabric to be all tied up in in july. suggestions? what do you mamas use who have flappy bellies like mine?

If your not wating anything to go around your waist, i would defietly suggest a wrap of some kind.

this one doesnt go around the waist

I'd go with the moby wrap or just a SPOC (simple piece of cloth) used in the same way. I used a SPOC, but didn't find it too hot. Make sure you have a breathable fabric and you should be good.

Also a mei tai and a pod can be tied in a number of comfy ways. I love my pod in a back carry tied tibetan (no waistbelt at all) - so cool and comfy!

I'd say a gauze wrap or a podaige(sp?). The moby does get hot in the summer

I have a Babyhawk mei tai and a Hoppediz wrap that are both so comfortable. I recommend them both.

i also think podegi or chunei.. it can hide the belly/spare tire.

Yep, I think a mei tai or a wrap would be a good choice too, as you can tie them different ways so that it's not sitting right on your belly.

Yes, I think a wrap would be a good choice.

My mei tai has padding in the waist, so I don't get any extra waist rolls/spare tires from it - and I'm a plus sized mama with a bigger belly too.

LOL I fit your description, and love my moby wannabe. I just went to my local fabric store and puchased the amount I wanted in a really lightweight material with a some stretch. I found that the moby was 5.5 yds and was concerned that wouldn't be big enough so I got 7 yards and figured I could always cut off if there was too much of a tail. DS was born in june, so I used it all summer, it was never too hot, but I did make sure I was only wearing lightweight shirts... ds loved it, he always went right to sleep in it... GL

Another possibility for you would be an onbuhimo. It's an Asian baby carrier, but only with two straps and rings.

My husband fits your description and hates the ergo, he actually likes the baby bjorn (doesn't fasten around the waste) and my son loves it because he can face out. I personally like my mei tai (babyhawk) and that would work well too.

wow that onbuhimo looks so good! it would be perfect! when wearing it on your back, does it cross right between the breasts?

I'm not sure, but google it, and I'm sure you can find tons of directions. There may be a you tube video as well.

I have a Kozy (mei tai) and use the back carry.

I cross the longer straps in the back and tie them in the front under my chest rather than tying them around my waist.
