Wicked by Gregory Maguire
I loved the book and any post I read of Elphaba's reminds me that I liked it!

I want to second Wicked and Glamorama--Glamorama is *very* dark, but I really liked it.

About Francesca Lia Block--If you can get Weetzie Bat it might be worth it to read it first because it should be ultra-cheap and it is a series, though they d ostand alone.

aquarianangela -- isnt guarding the moon wonderful?!?! I love everything that she has done. It is very poetic and beautiful. Can you tell I'm a big FLB fan?

Kylix--I can send you a copy of weetzie bat if you want--i've got a bunch

I second the Barbara Gowdy Mister Sandman recommendation! But one I liked even more was The White Bone by Gowdy. Told from the point of view of an elephant. Yeah, I know, sounds corny. But honestly, it is just amazing!
