Am I the only one who find it strange that Utah has one of the highest circ rates, yet this scripyture shows that Mormons supposedly are against it?

They probably don't research it. Technically the scriptures are against it but unless the church makes a statement on it people are pretty conservative and will continue to do what has been done in the past.

Precisely. I am LDS and was shocked and horrified to find these scriptures, to be honest. They just aren't scriptures that have been discussed in conference talks or Sunday meetings, at all. So, most members assume that because the commandment was given to Abraham to circumcize, they should continue to do so. A terrible misunderstanding of the commandment. I am passing the scriptures along in all conversations about circumcision with my LDS family and friends. In fact, I have a SIL who is due next summer and I'm sending her a bunch of stuff, that link included. Thanks for posting it, mamajulie.

I too am LDS and wasn't aware of those scriptures until I read this thread last night. We didn't circumcise our son for many reasons but those scriptures just enforce my beleif that circumcision is wrong.

I was very happy to read them and intend to point them out to a lot of people.

Yes, it's a terrible irony that Utah has such a high circ rate. But that is changing, one boy at a time! (Including my little intact Utahn!)
