Fro those who boycott Nestle

Maybe I'm late in learning this, but in America, Ovaltine, long a staple in my calcium intake, is made by Nestle.

I hadn't checked the label in at least a year, so the change in packaging that I found today got my attention, and I read.

I checked the last one in my cabinet too.

I've e-mailed the UK company, but for all I know, not having checked at INFACT.org in a long time, they're a subsidiary there too.

Needless to say, they've lost a customer. And I used to go through almost a jar/week. They lost a Good customer.

So now how do I make my enriched rice dream palatable?

Noooooooooooooooo.... please, please, say it ain't so! Waaaaaah! Ovaltine makes me feel connected to my late mother. Then again, since she was the one who started me on the Nestle boycott back in the late 80s-early 90s, that also makes me feel connected to her.

I wish it wasn't true. Ovaltine in enriched vanilla Rice Dream was my main calcium source.

Oh no. Daggonit.

Thanks for the heads up...I didn't know.

Grrrrrr... I love chocolate malt Ovaltine, too. I don't buy much of this type of stuff and havn't had Ovaltine in years, but still.

Well, I do have friends who now boycott Nestle because of me, so that helps ease the sting of delicious, delicious Ovaltine going on the "avoid" list.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
In October 2002, the food and drinks division of Novartis, the maker of Ovaltine, was bought by Associated British Foods. ABF currently produces Ovaltine in Switzerland, China, Thailand, and the Philippines. In the United States, Nestlé manufactures Ovaltine under license.
So I guess Ovaltine overseas is still okay? Weird.

Some cocoa powder (or raw cacao powder) and agave nectar/sorghum/molasses (regular or blackstrap)/turbinado/raw honey (if you're not veg*n). You could also add some cinnamon to that for a traditional mexican hot chocolate type flavor.

I've never had Ovaltine, but what a bummer!

I do have cocoa from Pennzey's... Guess I'll have to experiment.

It won't have the vitamins though.
