Adoption Tax-Credit Question

Thread Starter
Okay, we completed a step-parent adoption in July that we paid for completley out of pocket. At that time, my understanding was taht step parent adoptions are not eligible [sp?] for the adoption tax credit. A friend says that due to changes in the law, they are within our income bracket {$17,400 for this year} is this so? if so, Are there current sites where I can find out the exact law? We use taxact.com thru the IRS link because of our low income status, it's free and so is the e-file... TIA

you should be able to pull up the adoption tax credit info and any changes at http://www.irs.gov
Also, I have called H&R block and they have talked to me over the phone for free. I didn't do it during tax season though When it is simple yes or no questions lke that, they aid it wasn't a problem.

Hope that helps out.

My understanding is no. If it is a step-parent adoption you can't take the credit. But I would definately verify.
