BFing in Sierra Leone

This is a really interesting story: http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrit...A:3&pe=2TT3YGW (warning -- the "Nightline" video will very likely make you cry).

Here's a direct link to the ABC video: http://a.abcnews.com/Entertainment/s...6804291&page=1

I had no idea that BFing was discouraged so strongly by husbands there (Apparently, there's a cultural taboo against having sex with a nursing mother, so the husbands encourage their wives to wean very early.)

(Mods -- I hope this isn't too celebrityish!)

Me neither, I thought that Africa (some parts at least) still viewed BF as normal and essential - apparently not.

Yes

I worked with a nurse from there, and this is VERY common.

The women sleep separately too, and it is very common for the man to cheat at this time.

Always gotta control those women some way.

How about other parts of Africa?
