I guess my yeast issues were worse than I thought.

I've been taking water kefir for about a week now, in addition to the probiotics that I normally take.
Yesterday I noticed some itchiness and pain on my nips, but thought it was just from DS nursing so much.
Today I can see the inflamation beginning and the pain is getting worse. I'm slathering on coconut oil (can't take it b/c DS doesn't tolerate it)

I thought my kefir brew wasn't too sweet, but maybe it is?

Could kefir cause things to get worse before getting better?

I haven't had symptoms of thrush on my nips for months, but I guess this shows that things clearly weren't fully resolved...ugh.
This explains why the food intolerances are still so bad too....double ugh.

Any thoughts?

How much water kefir are you drinking a day?

You want to start slowly, a couple of ounces a day, increase an ounce more-each week. You can have die-off of the "bad guys" and the toxins can aggravate your reactions. So, yeast could flare temporarily. Have you tried grapefruit seed extract on your nipples instead? Or raw apple cider vinegar or baking soda washes, or essential oil of lavender.

The coconut oil will help too.

I'm up to about 1/2 a cup in the a.m., maybe I'll back off just a little.

I was wondering if this could be die-off, I've never experienced it before, so I wasn't sure.
I've got all the other things you listed on hand, so I'm ready to change it up if the coconut oil isn't effective.

How long could a die-off occur for? (I'm sure it varies, just trying to get an idea of when to stop thinking that's what it is if necessary)

Thanks Pat - always appreciate your insight!

Since figuring out that cane sugar is a trigger for DD a couple weeks ago, I've noticed that even a sip of water kefir (for me) will make her react. And that's with me brewing it for 2 days. So maybe it's enough to aggravate yeast too.

Against all advice in the TF forum, I brew mine with raw honey. It's delicious. And doesn't bother DD at all. Just make sure to keep some backup grains, because I'm told that honey will eventually kill them.

I didn't have any kefir for a couple weeks, then drank a 16oz bottle of it yesterday. Made me pretty gassy, but no other die-off type of symptoms. From what people have told me, it shouldn't cause the same kind of die-off symptoms as kombucha.

Yeah, it all depends. Quantity, amount of yeast, other toxins, stress, etc. etc. Generally, less than a week, probably a couple of days, would be my guess.

Well I hope this is die - off, I looked up some of the "symptoms" and they match for me.

DS has been MISERABLE today, and very gassy, with not so good poops. Including the last one which has triggered a yeasty looking rash! It's bright red everywhere except the usual "ring". I didn't see any die-off in the actual poop (would I?)
The only other thing it could have been is the nettles I trialed yesterday.

How would I know the difference between a rash due to a reaction, or due to yeast...?
He did have a rash like this a week or two ago, but that appeared to be a reaction to the Vit D we trialed (before the kefir, and before my thrush flared)

Yeast for me is ten times more stressful than some of these intolerances. I know I can avoid the intolerances, the yeast is very hard to get rid of!!
I think I might have to cry a little tonight - I hate seeing my little guy suffer

Do you all have Gripe Water or Tum-ease? A bit of ginger or fennel crushed in water will help with upset/gassy tummies.

No, you won't probably see anything in the stool. It is hard to tell the rashes apart, they aren't really different in appearance, just timing and duration from exposure.

Baking soda bath, coconut oil topically, lavender essential oil in the bath water-all will help soothe the rash (and have antifungal properties).
