I'm supposed to have it done today and all of a sudden I am nervous.

Does it hurt, I just want to know so I can anticipate.

I have, personally, never experienced it. I have heard it varies from person to person though. I have heard it hurts, to it's uncomfortable, to it's just like getting your annual exam.

Maybe someone with experience can share. I am sending you much luck though!!!

Come on baby! :

Was in PAINFUL? No probably not painful but for sure VERY uncomfortable. It made me have really deep cramping in my belly. My midwife always said that she picked the wrong profession because her fingers were too short so I also felt like her fist was digging into my crotch while she tried to reach. I had it done a couple times with DD and for sure didn't look forward to it but it didn't make me want to cry.

Hope thats helpful!

Had a "small" sweep on Monday--it just felt like a deep exam to me--no more uncomfortable than the rest of it. Will probably have it done again today.

DDC crash! Sorry!

I had a sweep with dd1 - it put me right into labour. I may just have been ready, but hoo-boy! Those contractions started right up.

Mine was no more uncomfortable than a thorough pelvic exam. I'd been using evening primrose oil for weeks, was 16 days overdue - and asked my midwife to put me out of my misery.

She told me that if it works, you're ready - if it doesn't, maybe you're not!

Sending you good vibes for labour!

Nope. Guess I wasn't ready. Just had another about 10 min. ago (hoping to avoid the on-call doc this weekend)...we'll see if that brings anything!

ETA: Its now five hours later and no progress....

I didn't think it hurt when I had it done with my DD2.

I had her later that night!

Good luck!

I've had three now -- two were light, one (yesterday) was more hardcore. They all just felt like menstrual cramps -- nothing I couldn't breathe through.

Didn't start anything, obviously!

(DDC crash from new posts)

I was already in the early stages of labor when I had mine stripped to speed things up. It hurt me a lot, but my cervix was still pretty posterior. It didn't really help, though.
