could this be an allergic reaction?

my dd has been a crazed-lunatic temper tantrum throwing mad child since about yesterday at noon. I swear, she has basically been screaming for over 24 hours.
She is just getting over a fever (it broke Sunday night) and has still been tired from that, so that's what I figured it was. But today, she woke up screaming about how her breakfast wasn't right, and basically has been screaming and crying ever since. She also refused to go to bed last night, which has never happened.
I also noticed that her cheeks are red, and her chin a little bit, and she is scratching a re-occuring patch of excema behind her knee.
What have we eaten differently? Not much really.... the only things I can think of were eaten after she started getting fussy. Veggie flavored pasta? She had a little bit of baby shower cake that had blue stuff on the frosting, but she spit that out and said it was "yucky". I bought a new jar of kind of cheap peanuts, which I don't usually get. They just have peanuts and oil in them (cottonseed and canola, I think) She eats peanut butter fine though.
We are also about to pop with a new baby any day now (due date is friday!), so maybe she's reacting to that. I am not the most patient mama right now, but dd has REALLY not been herself all day.... not really playing much... mostly throwing fits about things. And she's been BEGGING for apple juice, which I just started limiting again after her fever broke.

could she be teething? Or an ear infection?

It could be an allergic reaction, but if you havnt seen a change in your eating habbits, it could just be that your lo is fussier then usuall, or reacting to the baby stress.

Hope she starts feeling better

Too tired to think much right now, I'm just going to bump you back up to the top of the forum.

My son gets all crazy after having certain food colourings and preservatives, so it could be. But he also gets all crazy when I'm stressed - i.e. like right before we had our baby #2, so it could be that too!

do you know what was in the frosting? even if she spit it out, perhaps it was enough to react to? my kids are super sensitive to dairy--when I see behaviour changes like that I immediately know they got dairy(or gluten) somehow (like at my IL's )

That's where my bet lies.
There are other moms on this board who will agree with me that even the tiny amount she swallowed from having it in her mouth may very well have been *more* than enough for her to react to the food dyes.

The only tricky thing about that is that she had a MASSIVE tantrum the entire way TO the baby shower, because she dropped her sippy cup and I couldn't reach it while driving.
Otherwise, I would have totally suspected the food dye too... but the behavior started before that. Also, she just had gummy bears at preschool today and seems to be fine now. She is pretty much new to all this though, we've really kept her away from candy and such.

I'm starting to think it's a combo of growing (she's been sleeping a lot, and complaining of pain in her legs and arms), getting over the flu, and feeling the new baby about to come....
