Raleigh area mamas, I need help

I am feeling quite sad, more than I thought I would

I am moving my family to Knightdale (Raleigh area) in less than a month. That is a good thing that I have been excited about for many months.

The sad part is leaving our AP friends here, my LLL group, and our Gymboree class. I have a 3.5 yo boy and a 12 month old girl. We just had our last LLL meeting yesterday. I am a LLL junkie. Seriously, I have only missed one meeting since Ivan was 6 weeks old. I am feeling really sad this morning. I was planning on trying out all the LLL groups in the area to see where we "fit", but now I feel apprehensive. I will feel funny walking into a group with my bigger kids in case the meeting is small or only has infants.

Do any of you know of a LLL group that is large and has older kids mixed with the babies?

Also, I have a really nice Gymboree class that my kids LOVE!!!!! It is very liberal with Family Gymboree time and has a two-hour drop-off session that Ivan goes to. The owner is an AP mama and so friendly and generous. I am so sad about removing Ivan from this group activity that he thrives on. I looked on the website for the Raleigh Gymboree class schedule and it is so different than our's here. Only a hour-long drop-off and no siblings can come to class.

Do any of you take your kids to that Gymboree class? How is it?

What other group activities are available and slightly or blatantly AP?

Awww, it's hard to move! I know what you mean about being a LLL junkie, I absolutely loved my LLL group and the LLL community at large back in Michigan. It was sad to leave them.

The closest LLL to you would probably be the LLL of Wake Forest. (I attend that group.) It is a mixed group, and not the largest group in the area, but it is growing and has a nice group of core moms. I've visited both the LLL of Raleigh PM meetings (one of which is specifically a toddler meeting in a very child-friendly space) and can recommend them as well. I haven't visited the downtown Raleigh groups but I have no doubt that they are great as well, plus have the advantage of being near Whole Foods and some cool stuff downtown.

There's a baby-wearing group in the area as well, though I haven't attended. Also look for the Holistic Moms Network stuff, I have friends who are members of that.

Hi Sweetie! I got your email today and sent you a response, but in case you didn't get it you are so welcome to join our API group outings.

Let me know when you get here and if you need anything. We would love to come help with your move if you need it or you can come to one of our houses and escape box unpacking.

Thanks so much for hearing me and reaching out. I joined suggested forums and will definitely be showing up to playgroups, LLL and activities.

I just moved here, too. I can tell you that I'm feeling welcomed already. Like you, I had my LLL group back home as well as other AP friends and places to hang out. I'm sure we'll find our groove here in no time!

DH and I are totally geeked over how much bluegrass is around here. We have tickets to 3 festivals already this summer and we're looking forward to many more. I can't wait!!!

I think we need a Raleigh MDC meetup at some point. I'm also new to Raleigh and love bluegrass!

I wish I was gonna make it the API meeting that's tonight (right?) but I'm just way too pregnant to venture out much right now! I wish I had some mama friends in the area to meet up for coffee or something cause once the sun goes down my body starts aching! Hopefully I'll be having a baby any day now and can go to the LLL meetings again. I loved the one I attended at the UU church in Raleigh - there were definitely some older siblings and everyone was so friendly and made everyone feel very welcome. I highly recommend it.

Hi I just wanted to suggest Music Together classes in the area. We did them with our DD from infancy until about 4 years old. She's going to start piano lessons with her old MT teacher this summer. It's great for mixed ages of kids!

Make that a Raleigh/Durham/CH MDC meet-up and we'd have quite a party!

OP: I'm sure you will find a LLL group in the Triangle that's right for you...there are a bunch. I'm with CH am so its a bit of a hike for you in K-dale but we'd love to have you sometime.

I totally understand that sad feeling but I think you'll come to the Triangle!!

I've been to the Wake Forest LLL meeting and really enjoyed it. I'd love to meet you there sometime!

I'm also a member of HMN and it's a great group. There's actually (IMHO) a fairly large amount of AP parents in the area. I also belong to www.trianglemommies.com which has an AP/NFL sunforum which I really enjoy. The rest of the forum is mainstream though.

I don't live very far from Knightdale, so I'd be happy to meet up sometime! Welcome to the Triangle!

It was tonight and we have stuff happening all of the time.
There is also a group called Nursing Mothers of Raleigh that have great support and they attend our API Meetings.
We have some special speakers coming soon dealing with pregnancy and postpartum so it may be perfect timing for you in a month or so.

Count me in for a meetup! I didn't make it to the API meeting last night because H came home from CO on an early flight and Nolan wanted to be home to greet him. I'm really itching to get out and meet you all though, so let's do something soon.

Welcome to the neighborhood - there are a lot of us AP/crunchy folk around - and we're looking forward to meeting you. :

welcome to the area (soon)!! where are you coming from? i have a 3.5yo boy as well! we don't get to all the API activities though...I'm about an hour west (Alamance County).

there's a statewide LLL conference occuring in Raleigh 3-5 April! http://www.lllofnc.org/2009conf.html

I can't wait for the conference. API is sending down some people from HQ to participate with Triangle API. We are working on the details next week. I hope to see a lot of you there!
