Moby wrap issues

I am so frustrated with my moby wrap! They make it look so easy in those pictures, like, oh you just pop him in and out! Trying to get my 4 wk old ds into the cradle hold is nearly impossible, and it takes me and DH to do. The hug hold is a little better, but still really hard to get him in and out. And he seems to be bent a bit funny once he's in. Plus, it always seems too loose and too tight at the same time! It can't just be me. Someone else has to be as frustrated as I am! I feel destined to be an inadequate babywearer.

Sorry you are having problems with it. How long have you been using it? Just about any carrier takes a little practice. Don't give up...you can do it. It really is easy to pop baby in and out.

Some tips that may help:
  • Put on the wrap without baby in it. But, before finishing the knot, put your forearm in the pocket and push it out to make a little room for baby to go in.
  • If cradle position is not working out, then do tummy to tummy so that he is more upright on you.
  • You can also try half cradle, where he is sitting in sort sideway. So, rather than laying down full cradle, he's sort of half laying down.
  • If it's too tight or too loose once baby is in, just undo the knot and retighten/loosen wrap. Start from the shoulders and work it around and down to the knot.
  • And practice, practice, practice. Babywearing is an art and doesn't always come easy the first few times.

I could not do it the first few times if I had a shirt on, I would say 4 or 5 times, so I just used it around the house to practice. Also, look it up on youtube! that's really how I learned how.

It will definitely get easier! I had a Moby for my newborn and after a few failed attempts, I put it away for a few weeks. Then I went on youtube too and watched a video on how to tie it (cause I couldn't figure it out for the life of me). After practicing a few times, it worked great! Now I can easily tie it, I just had to keep practicing lots!

Personally, I did not care to use the Moby when by baby was first born. I put it on my mom a few times and my ds was content enough, but could not really do it on myself as newborns are so floppy at that time (even thought my ds did astonish me with his head control from birth). The hotsling was my bf during the first 5 weeks or so. Now my ds is 7 weeks old and we are just starting to really use the Moby. I always wear a thin shirt underneath and make sure I have it wrapped tightly around me. If it is not tight enough he will keep sliding downwards until he is almost falling out or he will pop his head out of the sides, lol. I will say that it is my least favorite out of my 3 wraps/carriers. I have the hotsling, the moby, and the ergo.
