On Becoming Birthwise???

I know that we've done the Ezzo debate a million and one times over - but when I saw the listing for this book, this was the first place I thought of coming. Has anyone seen this? Peeked at the pages in the bookstore?

I have to wonder - what on earth does Gary Ezzo know about giving birth (just as much as he knows about breastfeeding perhaps...). I'm incredibly curious to see what information/advice the book gives.

you beat me to it! i saw this in borders sunday and nearly flipped out! dd was running wild so i didn't get to peruse it much.
i did see a section on prenatal tests and how great they are, so i think we can see where he'll go: trust your OB, steer clear of midwives of all kinds, do whatever your doctor tells you because you, a mere woman, plainly know nothing about your body. :LOL
one of these days i'll get to look at it and i will report back. or maybe i should steer clear of it in case it makes my head explode.

NO FREAKIN' WAY.

I have GOT to know what BS this wretched man spouts off - without buying the book! :LOL

Wow, yuck.

You'll be happy to know I turned around a bunch of babywise books at B & N a couple weeks ago and put a Sears book in front of them.

I know, I caught sight of it last night in B&N and saw that the author appears to be his wife, actually. She seems to have co-authored it with maybe five other people. Didn't take the time to look at it, though.

Please say it isn't so!!! As if there isn't enough ignorance about birth out there!

:Puke

That about sums up what I think about the idea of that book. Hopefully someone can come here and summarize what this book contains. Yuck!

eta: I just looked on barnesandnoble.com and the authors listed are Gary Ezzo (not his wife), Sharon Nelson, Sharon Augustson, Diane Dirks and Kathy Hoefke. There's no real description of the book, though. On a happier note, I searched Amazon.com for Ezzo and it said nothing found and suggested a search "babywise." Again it said nothing found, but suggested Dr. Sears Baby Book, among others.

Noooooooooo!

Just had to get that out. As if the man hasn't done enough damage, now he's getting involved in birth too? Scary.

I can't believe it... arghhhhhhhhhh!!!

thankfully it is a dumb book and I don't think it is selling well. I just wrote a scathing review of the book for my doula publication.

My favorite part of the book is the end where There is a handy postpartum chart for mom, including a goal setting of cooking, putting on makeup, and making the beds

To quote myself,
Quote:
After reading this book, I wonder if the authors just needed to fulfill a contract for a new book. The information is sterile, without emotion or cause, and certainly does not come close to fulfilling the subtitle “Understanding Birth by Design”. Bottom line: this book that withholds information, lacks inspiration, and dissuades choices. The six-member team of authors seals the deal outdated wisdom and little understanding.

You've GOT to be f**king kidding me?!?!

: :Puke : :

The last thing new mothers need, especially bew breastfeeding mothers (and this is personal experience only speaking here) is to worry about MAKE-UP and MAKING BEDS!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr.........

It should be: Eat, sleep, change baby, nurse baby, love baby, bond, sleep.
