You just sealed the deal for me. I will never watch it.

Skimming the thread, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who simply can't watch that sort of thing. When I tell my MIL that I simply can't get near books or movies that involve torture, child abuse, excessive violence, etc. she seems to think I'm being a wimp. (And then she buys me A Thousand Splendid Suns for Christmas.

NO! My parents couldnt stand it.

I didnt think it was that great nor did I thnk it that bad as some of the reviews said. It was clever here and there, but also overboard in many places, and I am not only talking abou the violence / torture / poverty / but merely that the audience is expected to accept too many things that just aren't plausible. anyway, that is not unusual for hollywood / bollywood, so i wouldnt get too shocked SHOCKED about it.

I LOVED it.
The end was totally hokey, but I enjoyed that because it was in a sort of faux Bollywood fashion, almost a bit mocking of how cheesy Bollywood endings are. I guess I have watched enough Bolywood films with my MIL (like every time I see her!) To REALLY appreciate the humor there.
Anyways, I also am surprised by how many people couldn't handle the movie???
NOT A JUDGEMENT.....just actually surprised. It wouldn't have ever crossed my mind to walk out/fast forward.
We are all so different. I also LOVED A Thousand Splendid Suns (my DH and In laws are all from Afghanistan).

I guess FOR ME if that is reality for some, I decide that I should tolerate the violence in order to hear someones story....

Two of the kids, Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali, have returned to their homes in the slums. They have also gone back to their English language school, the tuition of which is part of their film payment.

On Friday Ismail was photographed getting hit by his father and as of Sunday, had taken ill, vomiting and with a temperature of 103 degrees:
I was very ambivalent about this film, and really struggled with the balance struck between exploitation and elucidation.
