It is not grounded in science. There is no evidence to support it.

Major medical groups and government research are unanimous: the measles vaccine is safe, and you must get your children vaccinated; because if you don't, you are endangering my children. You are endangering your neighbor's children. You are endangering all of our children.
Umm, yeah. It's nothing short of a miracle that my head didn't explode while I was watching this tonight.

A baby needs to be 12 months to get the measles vaccine. That means that infants are protected from the measles only because everyone they come in contact with, we hope, has already been vaccinated. Infants hide in the herd of other vaccinated people.
I wanted to write in to say that an infant IS protected from the measles if that infant is breastfed. (even better protected if the mom had actually had the measles, as opposed to the vaccine...)

I just came to see what everybody was thinking/saying about this piece.

As adults increasingly refuse to vaccinate their children, we will continue to see a rise in measles outbreaks. This is serious stuff. Measles can be deadly.
:sigh:

Ugh. I never liked Campbell Brown, anyways. I remember her doing a piece on the Today show that put breastfeeding in a negative light Excuse the cliche, but she really is a sheep.

Yeah, measles CAN BE deadly. So can crossing the street. Most of the time, in overall healthy individuals, measles is uncomfortable, not dangerous.

Let's not forget that Campbell Brown was the one who forgot that the last time that a party controlled both the White House and the Congress was under Bush - she said on the air it was during Carter's administration!

What a weird way of trying to convince people...saying it's your job to protect other people. I mean, the MMR package insert tries to say that vax is 99% effective. So this train of thought is that it's a neighbor's job to "gift" the neighbor kid with an additional 1% effectiveness?
"I bought a safety product that has a failure rate of one percent, and YOU OWE ME that additional 1%, neighbor!!! YOU HAVE to buy this product, too, so I can get insurance that what I bought doesn't fail!"

It's just...a really weird way of thinking.

Is it really 99% effective? I thought it was quite a bit less.

I looked. A quote from the department of health:

"From previous extensive studies, around five to 10% of children do not receive full immunity after their first jab which is why we always recommend a second booster jab at school."

I stand corrected. Two doses would give you 99%. Hmmm. Interesting. You've still got people who haven't/can't get vaccinated of course, but still. Not what I thought.

I was speaking of the serology reported on the package insert. The "true effectiveness" is debateable. Different studies find different things.

The verdict is in. There is no connection between vaccines and autism. And it is time that all of us get our children vaccinated.
Because autism is the only thing non-vaxxing parents are concerned about.
