Researchers found that human rhinoviruses are organized into about 15 small groups. So the idea of one drug fits all probably won't work, Liggett says. "Our mindset right now is to consider more along the antiviral treatment, rather than vaccines, but always keep an open mind to the new technology of vaccine development."

I read someplace else that some pharm company is already doing clinical trials for a vaccine for the common cold.

Whatever they come up with vaccines, drugs...I'll pass. Id rather have the cold than put crap into my body. I have a cold right now and it's a bummer, but come on. Im still here, still at work and in a few days Ill be back to normal. When are scientists going to learn to stop messing with mother nature?

AMEN! to that!
I live in fear of a world filled with super-bugs due to all this messing around with the natural way of things.

When will scientists stop messing with mother nature? I'm convinced that we first need to fully realize that we are a part of nature, rather than separate from nature. We need to remind everyone of our place in the natural world, and the importance of everything else in the natural world - especially illnesses. I shouldn't have to fight to be permitted to allow my or my children's bodies to develop immune systems the natural, healthy way.

I agree!! You know the more I am learning about the human body, immunology, and the real effects of drugs and vaccines on the human body, the more scared I become. Advances in technology and medicine can certainly be life saving, but also seems to be taking life away or creating things that they won't be able to treat down the line. Everything has a cause and effect and they keep coming up with drugs and vaccines and things to treat the "cause" (although sometimes its not even a cause, it's a symptoms or an effect from the first thing they tried to cure) without thinking about the effects down the line. Its reckless and quite frankly when I think about having another baby, Im not sure I want to bring another one into such a scary place! Some times I wish I was not so informed. With education and information comes a huge responsibility. I can't just sit back and do nothing! I have to do whatever it takes to take care of my family and protect my child. Sometimes that responsibility weighs heavily on my mind.

No Thanks!

and I HATE having a cold. No thank you. My supplements of VitD3, fish oil, and VitC are working just fine. I have a feeling that even if they do make a vaccine for it, it will still never, ever go away. Do cold viruses mutate?

I'd never take a vaccine for it. Vitamin D is working for me. No colds or flus despite being exposed to kids and the ill.

Once the vaccine comes out (which I am sure it will): "Colds kill (enter ridiculous high number here) people per year in the US."

No thanks. I have a cold right now, it is the first that I ever treated with sodium ascorbate, vitamin D3 and fishoil. It is amazing - just a slight sniffle instead of full blown!!! It's the 3rd time (first a sore throat, then sinus infection, now it would have been both - I could tell the signs from it starting) since DS was born and he never caught it from me.

ALL bacteria and viruses have the ability to mutate. It's a survival trait. Hence needing to come out with a new flu vaccine every year and having people still get sick...

I understand that the common cold can lead to more sinister things when the person doesn't take care of themselves...but I'd rather have the common cold and have to up my vitamins then risk coming down with the "super cold" and have to be hospitalized.

now see, if I really were the conspiracy theorist some posters here think I am, then I would think they are doing this on purpose. creating more vaccines, letting more things mutate, creating the need for more vaccines.

more disease, more vaccines, more money.

LOL Don't say things like that. It gets my mind working and makes me paranoid...

but in some sick way it makes sense. If no one got vaccinated and everyone took care of themselves there wouldn't be as much of a need for new vaccines and new antibiotics because the old ones would work.

oh im not really saying it... my mind just wanders sometimes and then I think "okay, now THAT is "conspiracy theorist" of me..." I really DONT think they do it on purpose (maybe its my trust in humans good nature?) but I do think that is what the end result is... (things mutate because of vaccines, then we have new diseases that take lives because they are unknown, then they know about them and make more vaccines. in the meantime, while that cycle continues, each new vaccines equals more revenue... not that that is what drives the vaccine industry, in my mind, but just that that is what happens.

you know, when discussing vaccines I used to use the argument: "Come on! What are they gonna come up with next? A vaccine for the common cold?!?" Guess I can't use THAT one anymore :eyeroll:

And they are already starting on the scare tactics. When I saw the news story, at the end it said "colds cause x amount of ear infections, y amount of ear tube surgeries, and z amount of deaths related to pneumonia" head:

Yes, this is EXACTLY what we need. For the common cold to become one of the super bugs; as if we don't have to worry about that enough. :

What we need is a vaccine for driving cars, flying on airplanes, and crossing the street...those activities cause just as many problems (and can cause DEATH *dun dun dun*)
