and unbleached indian or chinese?
i love prefolds but only have gerber which seem pretty craptastic, and the polyfil,WTH? why is there polyfil? it certainly is not absorbant .
anywho my son peed straight through his prefold and fleece soaker yesterday. i was wondering if there are any prefolds that actually absorb.
i want to go get some from a local cloth diapering shop today so any advice asap would be awesome.
TIA
ETA- ok i am back from cloth diaper heaven 316.00 dollars later i walk ed out with 6 tiny tush one size fitteds, 8 thirsties fab fitteds, 3 thirtees covers , 6 unbleached chinese prefolds (i asked her for the biggest baddest prefold she had, she gave me some 8 ply or something like that,) a diaper sprayer and some bum genius bottom spray.
the tiny tush and prefolds are in the washer prepping, the fab fitteds are on DS he is in love with em. i forgot to add that other than prefolds we have been using kushies ultras for a year. not the most cushie or comfy at all.

There is definitely a difference!! We have some indian ones and they absorb great I would definitely pick some up if you are a prefold fan!

Yes, there is a HUGE HUGE difference! They are a completely different animal. The Gerbers are good only for wiping up a bit of spit-up, as far as I'm concerned. I know you said you plan to go to a local shop, but should you strike out there, let me recommend the prefolds (Chinese or Indian) from Green Mountain Diapers. They are by far the best I've used, and I know a lot of other mamas here would agree.

Good luck!

Back about 8 years ago gerber did sell DSQ, diaper service quality diapers. Those actually are good. I have those and use them for my babes. However, I know exactly which ones you're talking about. They don't hold much! I need some toddler sized ones, and definitely will be ordering some online this time!

It's like night and day! The indian and chinese prefolds are soft and thick and absorb SO much more than the gerber ones, even the better-quality Gerber ones. I had a bunch of those a friend gave me, and wow, they FELT nasty. My indian prefolds feel so heavenly soft.

I too have heard that gerbers used to be fine. It is just there new polyfil ones that suck. I have gerber flats and they are fine- cotton is cotton after all.

OMG you will be in diaper heaven if you get some new ones!

I use primarily gerber prefolds for my 9 month old and have since her birth. I use the organic birdseye prefold with a folded gerber birdseye flat in the middle. She does not have leaks. They work great. If I use the flats I use 2-3 at once tri-folded. Maybe my DD just isn't a big urinator. I also have Thirsties fitteds and Bella Bottoms fitteds that are OS. We use those for going out. I have some large Green Mountain Diaper prefolds for when she gets a bit bigger. But, Gerber dipes are fine here and cost effective for us.

Polyfil sucks! It isn't absorbent at all, so I agree there from my experience.

I agree with PPs! I bought a pack of gerber prefolds, knowing I wanted to cloth diaper and thinking thats what you use. They are thin, and crappy. I got some decent PFs from the TP here and I was AMAZED how different and so much better then the GPFs
