I was lucky and got word of mouth recommendations from DD's chiropractor. I actually did not like the ND she first recommended, but then after seeing others I ended up liking her approach better. If you are new to this it's really important to keep an open mind because the treatments can seem very "out there." Anyway, are there any chiropractors, massage therapists, nutritionists, physical therapists, etc. in your community that you could ask for a recommendation? Also I just googled and found this website. I haven't checked the link. HTH!!!

Sorry, I knew there was another thread I was supposed to be addressing somewhere but couldn't seem to find it.
I would suggest asking what modalities they use most in their practice (nutrition, homeopathy, herbs... I'm not certain of everything in which NDs are trained, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in. If they don't use what you need in their practice regularly, they may not be able to help you.
Ask what their stance is on allergies- just like "regular" doctors, there are some NDs who don't believe in food allergies whatsoever, some who believe in intolerances and some who believe food allergies are <insert something- nutritional deficiencies, blocked energy... again, depends on modality>.
If they don't treat in a way you're comfortable (ie "Food allergies are emotional responses." is not a practitioner I would personally see but some people would be most comfortable with that.), find someone else. If you're just plain not comfortable with them, find someone else.
It sounds to me that you are looking for someone with primarily a nutritional approach- but remember that you will grow and change over the course of this journey. I started out wanting a nutritional approach and have moved (at least partially) over to a homeopathic. I'm incredibly lucky that my practitioner uses both in his practice on a regular basis.
You also have questions to ask *yourself* as well as your ND: Where do you see your philosophies in health heading? What can you think of possibly needing in the future from an ND? Are you looking for only "preventative" care? Do you want someone who will practice acutely (if you get sick, do you want them to be who you call?) as well? What kinds of questions would you ask a "normal" doctor if you were interviewing them for the same job?
