Anyone heard of an iodine allergy?

So, I got dd muscle tested when she was 2 wks old b/c her food allergies showed day 2 when my milk came in. (I had great luck doing this w/ds.)
I got a long list of foods I've eliminated from my i.e. her diet. But, iodine was on the list. I make a lot of our stuff from scratch, but seriously almost everything has salt (i.e. iodine in it). BTW-I use sea salt w/out iodine.
I've just never heard of iodine as an allergy/sensitivity before and I know our body does need some.
Any info. to share w/me? Thanks!

No info to share, but I do know my MIL is allergic to iodine as well.

Isn't there some connection with iodine and shellfish allergies? (thinking out loud)

I believe so. I knew a woman that had a severe allergy to iodine (ingested) and had a horrible reaction while cleaning fish that were iodine rich because it soaked into her skin.

MIL can't eat shellfish because it's too high in iodine... Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

Yeah, I'm allergic to iodine.

Didn't someone on another thread say there's corn in iodized salt? There's also usually dextrose too. I'd want to be sure it's not corn or dextrose that's the problem, rather than the iodine.

I believe the muscle testing said that iodine was a problem, not iodized salt.
Could be wrong, I usually am lately.

FWIW I'm sensitive to iodized salt, but don't seem to be sensitive to iodine in seafood....

it's possible. Are you certain though that it's a reaction to the iodine and not a reaction from getting iodine? Ingestion of iodine triggers a mobilization of halogens. Many people find this extremely uncomfortable. Just a thought.

Iodine allergy is totally possible. My mom breaks out in hives if she eats anything that ever lived in the sea (non-fresh-water fish, seaweed, shellfish, everything), washes her hands with betadine, and her hands get itchy if she so much at fills out my week's worth of fish pills. It may be getting bad enough that she should switch to non-iodized salt.

The muscle testing indicated that dd reacts to iodine. So, that's what I'm needing to gather info. on. She's only 2 months old now and I haven't been able to bring her allergic reactions to baseline despite having eliminated everything that she tested postive for via muscle testing at 2 wks of age. I do feel for her b/c she is so young and her system so sensitive. Her eczema is always present and always is flaring up. With ds, he was older once I figured out all of his food reactions and it only took 3-4 wks. for him to be mostly symptom free (eczema being the biggest noticable difference from him having a lot to none). I
've also thought maybe the muscle testing missed some foods I eat and am trying to see if I can poinpoint any additional items (with no luck yet). However, I do need to pinpoint which spices in a spice mix she tested postive too are a no go for us. But, even with avoiding all of the spices in the mix I still haven't gotten her to baseline.
I only use plain old sea salt. Does anyone know if the salt used in anything packaged has iodine in it?
Also, if you have to avoid iodine what products must you avoid.........salt with iodine obviously, and anything fish or from the sea......anything else?
I obviously have no experience or knowledge on this iodine thing so any help for dd is appreciated. Thanks!

This is off the topic of iodine allergy, but are you also off gluten? Are your spices gluten free (for example, McCormick's brand single spices) if you are off gluten?

Regular commercial milk products are also something to avoid. Farmers feed the cows food that has iodine in it to keep them healthy, then they use it to clean the udders and the equipment that they use so a good bit goes into the milk. I have a problem with this aspect as well as some of the others mentioned. Heavy creams and condensed milk seem to harbor a lot of the iodine, I think it may hang out in the fattier places, but skim milk can even be a problem.
I personally have to do organic milk and milk products.

This is a little side note about iodine. I'm allergic to shellfish based off of my reactions. My OB told me that I need to tell doctors that I am allergic to "iodine" to be on the safe side since topical iodine is used in a lot of medical procedures. I'm not sure of details or what procedures etc....just what a doc told me!
