when I was the one who didn't know that varicella was chicken pox I was not ill informed in other areas of my childrens health care.
My son was breastfed, cloth diapered, never left to CIO, we practiced safe cosleeping, we delayed solids, and fed only healthy foods. all those were educated choices. I was ill informed when we vaccinated him because I was trusting the wrong people. Now I only trust myself. I read the information presented to me, but I don't believe it blindly. I didnt really look into Varicella back then or I would have learned it was chicken pox. I know its not hard to find that information, but if you are busy looking at other things (Even other information on vaccines) you may miss the whole varicella-chicken pox thing. I think they should just call it the chicken pox vaccine - but then I think less people would get it.
looking back, I think I did know my child was being vaccinated against chicken pox (but I don't remember the varicella=chicken pox connection, it was a long time ago though) and thinking cool he wouldnt have to get chicken pox, but at that time I didnt realize all the dangers involved in vaccines, their ingredients, or the fact that this would increase the liklihood of shingles. so, not that I was ill informed necessarily, but underinformed definitely. I suppose the information I did have was bad though, in retrospect. had I been wisely informed about vaccines I wouldn't have vaccinated. That was foolish on my part.
