Can one breast dry up?

I have been bfing my ds for 2 years - yesterday I started feeling pain in my left breast, armpit, & upper arm. My son prefers the right breast, and today, when I had him nurse on the left side, he couldn't get milk from it. Is it possible for one breast to dry up and not the other? or is this something else? There is no lump that I can find, just painful.

It is both totally possible and probably what happened.

My sister intentionally feed her children only off of one side as she had huge oversupply problems. :This caused the other side to dry up. It is nothing to worry about, unless being lopsided for the duration of your nursing relationship is of major importance....I found that one side on me also dried up before the other side when my DS1 started to wean.
