If you haven't seen this movie yet , I think you should! It was really beautiful and moving. I watched it twice today with my son. He liked it too. I know there are Mommas who might not want thier kids to see it however because of the beginning birth scenes and so on, but he really enjoyed the movie and the music, and we have been making maori"scaryfaces' with a good foot stomp and tongue thrust since. He was enthralled with the whales and we talked abut how the grampa was grumpy and that hurt the girlks feelings and was not nice and we discussed what should be done about that .

I really like this movie!!!The story is wonderful and the music is wonderful and..well..it was wonderful. I am so glad I rented it!

I now want to move to new Zealand if it means we can be barefoot all the time ! That was a wonderful site..people with no shoes anywhere they pleased.

Anyway, just wanted to tell people about his movie..it is good..go rent it!

I loved this movie too. I had to post a thread about it when I saw it in the theater.
I love beautifully done movies when it comes to the Maori or any other native peoples, there are so few good ones. Because I live in Hawaii and am part Hawaiian, I really felt that native beliefs and customs done in the movie were authentic. So many times it's so "Hollywood"

And that little girl! What a beautifully acted job she did!
So I concur with Mojo, !!

It is wonderful. I asked for the soundtrack for xmas (shoulda asked for the movie too! ) because it's Lisa Gerrard formerly of Dead Can Dance (she also did the Gladiator soundtrack).

I don't get to see many movies even on video, but I'm so glad this was one of them!

I just watched it last night, and I was unprepared for how powerful a film it was. Sometimes less is more, and Hollywood is usually "too much!" It was gorgeous and evocative and so feminist! I'm telling everyone I love to run out and rent it immediately.

I watched it with my two-year-old dd. We both loved it, her more than me. She now likes to decorate her face in the manner of a Maori warrior.

Oh, too cool! I will definitely get it out now! I pondered seeing it when it was out and now slowyly walk by it at the video store -- but now that I know Lisa did the music I will be compelled to get it out. I just Dead Can Dance.
