FDA pulling chelation meds from market!

If you're chelating due to dental mercury, you need to be aware of this e-mail received from my source of DMSA last night:

Quote:

Dear DMSA Customer,
Recent activities by the FDA regarding DMSA have put us in a position of warning you that DMSA may not be allowed to be sold as a dietary supplement much longer. We are embarking on an effort to investigate whether DMSA was sold as a dietary supplement prior to January 30, 1991 when the FDA approved a new drug application for products containing DMSA. If we can show DMSA was sold as a dietary supplement prior to this date then we believe DMSA would be allowed to be classified as a dietary supplement. If we can not find evidence of DMSA being sold as a dietary supplement prior to this date then it is very likely that the new stance taken by the FDA will succeed in removing DMSA from the market place as a dietary supplement.
We have ceased purchasing any new raw material at this time and we are now selling out all existing inventory.
We are notifying you as a past or current customer of DMSA so that you have the opportunity to purchase DMSA while our supplies last. We are also seeking your support if you can provide any evidence that this ingredient was purchased by you as a dietary supplement prior to January 30, 1991.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Vitamin Research Products Inc.
Yesterday it was B6, today DMSA, what will be pulled tomorrow?

I stocked up on DMSA. I think you will still be able to get it if you have a prescription, but good luck trying to find a dr that is willing to do that. I do have a doctor nearby that uses Cutler's protocol, so I can always go to him.

Just certain forms of B6 might get banned by the FDA.

It's ridiculous that FDA has to protect big pharms like this. We have the right to take necesarry supplements without the huge side effects that prescriptions have.

the whole thing is really annoying. this doesnt effect me in a dental aspect but I came across this thread and I think its ridiculous. my husband asked why (thinking it must be dangerous or something) I told him the reason and he was floored.

Do you have a more reliable source than that, Kerry Ann? I can't seem to find it anywhere but there and some other conspiracy sites..

Plus, I know that Jarrow has press releases out and some other supplement companies as well.

Thanks, Kerry Ann.

From the FDA response link:

Please note that the acceptance of the petition for filing is a procedures matter in that it in no way reflects an agency decision on the substantive merits of the petition.
And those documents are from 2005...
And they're only talking about one form of B6. So even if it does go through, it should still be able to buy other forms.

So while this is interesting and I don't know much about it, I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah, that is really easy to say if this doesn't affect you. This particular form of B6 is what my ds needs. And while I may still be able to buy other forms of B6, those won't do him much good. And what's to stop the FDA from doing this with other forms of B6, or any other vitamin for that matter?

Yes, that's the problem. They're doing this with the active and best forms of B6. P5P, a form of B6 that I use, is also being affected.

True, it started in 2005 and they're pulling it now. What else are they pulling soon because their petition documents aren't public? I do know that the DMSA petition occurred less than 18 months ago and they're pulling that now. So because the timing isn't consistent and we have no way of knowing what's being petitioned, it's akin to Russian roulette with people's health.

There's always Canada. Whether it'll get stopped by customs is the question and the risk you'll be taking.

I think P5P is/will be available by prescription, or at least something that works like P5P, so it's not like you're completely out of luck. I know it's less convenient and probably a lot more expensive...

Have you tried the regular B6? Maybe your DS can convert the form now. Or maybe something else to add to the regular B6 so the body converts it properly. I know I would be livid if they banned regular B6 - I finally found my miracle supplement!

Ok, given that this isn't my issue and I'm not well researched on it, I did some googling, and I don't see anything that actually says it's going to be banned. I see an acknowledgment of a petition, and an extreme interpretation of that acknowledgment, and a bunch of people repeating the interpretation.

Where's the actual ban? B6 is soon going to be high on my list of supplements...
