whining help

Maybe this belongs on the baby board, but my 7 month old has been whining up a storm lately. It is driving me crazy. Sometimes it is because she isn't feeling well and I understand that, but it seems to be her main line of communication in all instances. I guess it is to be expected since she can't talk, lol.

Should I treat it as I would treat crying with a younger baby and do what I can to meet her needs? Is this a separation anxiety thing or a cranky phase or just her way of "talking"? Does it continue throughout toddlerhood and beyond. How do you deal? It's like nails on a chalkboard and I need to change my frame of mind.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think of whining as a tone of voice when talking.

If your infant seems unhappy by all means do what you can to help her.

I've seen an increase in DDs whining and fussing lately as well. Often it seems that she just doesn't know what she wants.

But I do think it's your attitude that needs to change about it. She's still quite little and needs you--its not like she's 7 years old, and whining just to piss you off. She's just a baby. This is her way of communicating.

Treat it just like she's a newborn and do what you can to get her needs met.

At that age, I don't think it's whining in the sense of an older kid. It's just a way of communicating. I'd do my best to not overreact to it.
