:

I can't use anything like peppermint or TTO on my own body because I'm chemically sensitive. I used Dr. Bronners peppermint soap once and it burned. I would never do it on my child because there's a good chance they'll be just as chemically sensitive as I am. If he reacted like it burned him, it very well may have. I'd give plain water a try and see how he reacts.

When I change baby (4 wks old) I hold her over the sink to pee and poo more. She almost always does. Then I rinse her with plain water, that's it.

For older kid poop though you sometimes need some soapy suds to get it all off. We held baby over the sink and used whatever was around...liquid Dr. Bronner's works well but I would stay away from peppermint. Lavender VERY dilute or almond, or the unscented baby kind (in the light aqua colored bottle) IMO are best. happy washing!

We keep cloth wipes and baby wash cloths (for back up) by the sink and just wet them with warm water at diaper change time. We then put them in the diaper pail with the cloth diapers.

Any links to the pump thermos.... I'm intrigued!
I've used the natural baby world recipes- or just water, usually. I use the baby wipes for everything, and keep getting more and STILL need more.
They are great for cleanups, big and small, washing dishes. I love them for washing my own face-- the size is just right. Hope to get more at the Farmer's Market this year.

I went to Costco and got a 24 pack of cotton washcloths. When I need to use them, I just wet them with water. It is much easier, I think, to use a bigger wipe like a washcloth than a smaller one. YMMV.

I just use plain water in mine.

Washcloths and water. Just like everyone used until some marketing guy invented the "baby wipe" and convinced the world that it took some magic solution to clean a baby's a$$ and special packaging to keep the wipes ready moist because it's too hard to use the faucet.

: honestly, it works really well... and I'm much too lazy to make up some kind of solution (and then find it to spray on the kids bum each diaper change).

I used the wipes warmer from Wal-mart. Used to keep the wipes in their moist, but without tea tree oil it gets yukky. So, I just keep the water warm in there with some drops of lavender oil, and then dunk the wipe and wring it out. It works great. Then I put it in the large plastic "showoff" box with locking lid. I made my own wipes, scrap cotton/flannel fabric. They measure about 7" x 7" give or take. I just used a 1/8" zig zag stitch 1/8" from the edge and they don't fray at all. I can make about 30 per 1 yd fabric. That is usually about $0.10 or less. I love them. I have made them for baby shower gifts and given the warmer and oil with them! :

I love cloth wipes and so does my little Ophelia. She has never had a rash (she's 3 and a half months now). We have an assortment of cloths. Some are baby washcloths that we were given at her baby shower, some are fleece/terry cloth diaper inserts that we used as diapers when she was too little for prefold nappies, some are random cloth scraps that were in my sewing box. I keep an old disposable wipes box with water by the change table. Sometimes I add a drop or two of one or more of the following: lavender, tea tree, mild natural soap (like Druide) if I have it on hand, or olive oil. Sometimes I use plain old water. We like to switch it up.
Fia seems to really like the tea tree oil, but I agree with pps that it might not be so good for sensitive skinned babies. I particularly like the tea tree oil because when I toss the used wipes into the diaper bag they make the room smell good
