We're finally there and never CIOed!

Ahhhhh I love it! My DD has never been a great sleeper, the opposite in fact! She never would nurse to sleep, even as a baby so I would rock and rock and rock her. Then I would wear her in the babyhawk, then we moved to sitting next to her and rubbing her back, then for the last while it's been her laying on her toddler bed on our floor (no longer bedsharing, but we have a LOW ikea bed and her bed is pushed up to ours, so it's basically the same thing, I would still consider it co-sleeping) and sitting next to her on our bed until she falls asleep,

and now for the last couple of nights I lay her in her bed and tell her goodnight and leave and shut the door and she GOES TO SLEEP ON HER OWN. Although she does crawl onto our bed first of course haha (I just move her back to hers when I want to go to sleep and she doesn't wake up). She will be 2 in a couple of weeks. I have really enjoyed nighttime parenting, but am so happy to have some of my night back with DH!!

Mostly,
It's really a good feeling to know that I never resorted to CIO and always followed my parenting instincts and that she is now confident in her attachment to DH and I that she will let us leave her and go to sleep on her own. There were some points that I thought I'd have to rock for to sleep for an hour for the rest of her life LOL.

Perfect timing too as we have another one that will be arriving in July!

I'm not pushing her moving out of our tiny room, but she sleeps through the night so I'm thinking maybe she'd like to go into her own room someday. But for now I'm just so overjoyed about this big nighttime step!!!

YAY! Congrats Mama! : It is so nice to hear stories like this when I'm up almost every hour all night with my 5.5 month old! He WILL sleep ONE DAY!! hehe

Oh my gosh, that is so great to hear! My lo is only 3 months and we're having people pushing us to cio (even now! at 3 months! really???) saying that we'll never get her to sleep on her own. I'm so glad to hear that you did it successfully!

I am so happy to hear your story. It's very encouraging. Thanks for sharing it! We do the beds pushed together thing too. I was considering moving them apart about two feet. I'd like to start some kind of gentle transition.

Hers is a little lower than ours and a couple of inches away, she has to step out and stand up to get into ours. It works for us well!

Congratulations!!! That is so awesome and so encouraging for the other mamas out here who are struggling with this issue. I needed to read a success story this morning - thank you.

for the story. You give us all hope.

Thanks for the ray of hope. Our twins are 13 months and the past few nights have been exhausting - both want mommy and one actually wants to sleep on top of me (which if we only had one I might give into) and then there is the night nursing. We are getting the push from family to get them into cribs and I have to admit it does sound appealing when DH & I have too little sleep too many nights in a row. Congratulations & I hope to be able to say the same by the time they are 2!!

*cry* she's actually decided that she can't fall asleep now if someone is in the room with her, so she's moved to a toddler bed in her own room. Just 10 days before she turns 2. I think I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight (as I did during nap time... I need naps I'm pregnant!) without a little girl sleeping on the floor by my bed.

She's more ready to be done cosleeping than I am!

I am glad I bring you ladies hope, I actually may have thought she'd be cosleeping until she went to college.... my what a difference a few months makes!

Thank you SO much. I really, really needed to read that today! My DD is almost a year old and it is SO encouraging to imagine that we might be in a similar place in another year. Right now it seems like she will never sleep, period, let alone sleep alone.

wow, this is such a big milestone and you are the only ladies I can really share it with since all the mainstream parents and people I know would assume that of COURSE my almost 2 year old should be able to put herself to sleep in her own room.

Tonight is the first night of her actually sleeping in her own room even though she's been putting herself to sleep in our room. I am AH-MAZED and in utter shock. Pretty sure never thought the day would come when I could just say "goodnight, I love you" and kiss her and put her in her bed and walk away and she STAYS THERE and DOESN'T CRY! Who are you and what did you do with my never sleep through the night much less put herself to sleep daughter?!?!

Don't let anyone tell you mamas still in the throes of long nights that it doesn't get better or that your child will never be a good sleeper if you nighttime parent and meet their needs and listen to how THEY need to be put to sleep. I have always worried that *maybe* I was doing something wrong when it would take 2 hours to get her to sleep. But now I am confident! YAY.

Okay, I'm done... sorry... I have no one else to share this with.

Yay Mama, congratulations! :

I hope we'll be there soon too but I can't imagine it's right around the corner.

Wow, that is so awesome! We didn't make it to that point until DD was FOUR. I am really really hoping DS decides to go to sleep on his own sooner! Although, I'm trying to enjoy it since he is my last baby.

thats awesome! we've gotten "there" without CIO twice now, and both times it was just the best feeling ever! still working on it a 3rd time but we've a long way to go still

congrats! I have an 8 month old and can't wait to try it out on him..

Right now he will not go to sleep without me or my breast lol... I finally convinced my hubby to move our mattress onto the floor since ds just started crawling (all over the place).

Once he turns 18 months I plan on buying him a small mattress and putting it next to ours to see how he does.

Hope it goes as well as it did for you.
