Just asked dh, he says we would find a Dr. to pay off:

I would probably move to another country. My dh's job can be found worldwide so that wouldn't be an issue.

I'd have been out of the country in no time.

I forget where I heard it, but there is one country in Europe .. I think Germany or Poland .. that requires the polio vax. But that's about it.

And the US isn't mandatory, just "strongly encouraged as that is the standard of care" as one ped told me. They like to make you think its mandatory, but that's just a scare tactic.

now off to read the rest of the responses.

I was thinking that if mandatory vax was one of the first steps to a police state, I might do the above to buy more time.

But I would be out of the country in a wink. I have some relatives-in-law that live in Canada so we would probably head there first.

I try not to subscribe to too many vaccine watch-dog groups for this reason lol. Someday I feel as if I need to hop on a plane right then and there.

Since others said it, I will put my two cents in here too ..

When I was still pregnant, DP and I talked about the possibility of something like this happening. We were worried that Child Services might be called on us for various reasons (home birth, no ped, not vaxing, his father hates me and will do anything to make us miserable). We both came to the conclusion that, if need be, we would pack up in the middle of the night and leave. We'd go to Canada first, as that is easier, but we would probably end up moving to Europe. I'd like to live in England or Italy, as would he, but he wants to go to Ireland.

So yes, we would be gone in a flash. We've both moved around the country enough to where we can deal with leaving friends behind and keeping in touch through email and now the lovely invention of facebook. So really, there's not much keeping us here.

I certainly hope this never happens, but it wouldn't surprise me. The Patriot Act already mimics Hitler's Enabling Acts in an all too familiar way. But now that Bush is out of power, we may have some hope in getting that reversed. Our constitution has already been comprised by the Patriot Act so much, that something like this could happen. And it terrifies me. Absolutely terrifies me.

man, i don't know what i would do. it would be so hard to leave my family and friends.

but i guess if it came to that we would have to. probably to Italy.

the idea of that makes me upset. we just got our vaccination reminder in the mail the other day. advertisement paid for by wyeth pharmaceuticals of course.
