I have 2 sons--one 13 1/2 in the 8th grade and one almost 19 and in college.
My youngest (on the honor roll) has been unable to keep his mouth closed in one particular class which has gotten him into "intent to suspend" status. If he looks at this teacher wrong now, she can suspend him for 3 days. He also had a problem with getting out of bed which caused him to be late to his homeroom everyday. *That* got us a juvenile court appearance. (Yes, for tardiness.)
My oldest (who didn't get his driver's license until he was 18) is all into cars and the "Fast and Furious" stuff. So far, the only ticket he's gotten was one of those photo-tickets for running a red light, but it's just a matter of time... His driving has also gotten him into 2 fender benders. No injuries (except to his car), but it's just a matter of time... He's also really an emotional kid, so the stresses of school, work, girlfriend, trying to figure out how to grow up, and worrying if he's doing it all right have caused some explosions that I've ended up as the target for.
So, between the two of them, I'm right on the edge. I know it could be much worse, but aren't things supposed to get easier as they grow? *sigh* With the oldest one, I know I have to just let go, but I'm finding that very hard to do. With the youngest, I have to let him suffer the consequences of his own actions. *sigh again*

I am there with you. It is hard to let go and let your kids feel the bumps in life.
