if your husband is willing, it would absolutely work. we are a lesbian couple who has conceived successfully twice (the only two times we have tried, actually), with a known donor, at home, using nothing more intricate than an oversized coffee mug, a medicine syringe, and the internet (for inspiration on his end!).

the most important thing is to find a receptacle that your DH is comfortable with - but preferably glass or ceramic (not plastic).

i don't have any facts on viability of sperm outside the body - there are lots of others here who can speak to that, i am sure.

here is what we did - donor was in one room, we were in another. he did what he needed to do, left the deposit on a table, knocked on our door and went to the washroom. i went out, got the deposit, took it into our room and immediately transferred it to my DW using the medicine syringe. she stayed in bed, hips elevated (just on a pillow) for 30 to 45 minutes.

and that was that.

we usually start insemming day 11, and insem for three or four consecutive days.

i think it is a great alternative for you, and there are things you can do to make it fun(ner) for everyone (use a funny receptacle, listen to music, hang out together during the wait in bed, that sort of thing).

i think it's great that your DH will do this. it makes perfect sense - get the goods to make a baby and leave the sex for when you want it.

many babies are born to two mom families in this way. i wish you all the best of luck!!!!
